Yate & District athletic club
Congratulations to Toby Richardson on an excellent performance at last weekend’s Welsh Athletics Championships.

Toby claimed gold in both of his races, setting a new 200m PB of 28.51 and running 17.41 in the 100m despite a challenging -3.0 headwind.

The results mean Toby is crowned Welsh National Champion in the U20 T54 wheelchair racing category!

A fantastic weekend of racing and a well-deserved reward for all the hard work.

⭐️ Andy Metherell ⭐️

At the weekend I raced in the National Road Bike Time trial Championships, its a relatively new event for road bikes, however one year George Fox won it on a TT bike with dropped handle bars which caused a lot of converse and sine then the course has been on hilly or rolling terrain more suited to road bikes. I first entered this event in 2023 when it was on our local course near Marshfield, on that occasion I got stuck behind a tractor and was a bit disappointed with my time. The following year it was on a pan flat course near Cambridge and the it absolutely poured with rain I was soaked freezing cold and but glad I made the effort to enter. Then in 2025 they announced the course was in the Yorkshire dales on the circuit of Ingleborough. I was super excited, on the day I didn’t pace it at all well due to all the climbing and steep gradients in the first half and ran out of gas in the final km’s. This year when I saw the course was in Scotland I thought that I must go and have another attempt.

Its called the Tour of the Meldons which is a 22 mile circular course with 3 climbs with a mixture of quite B roads, single track lanes and has an up hill finish into the grounds of a hotel. I travel up on Friday night so that I could ride the course before race day and this time planned my pacing strategy meticulously which was to go full gas on the down hill / rolling middle section that had a massive head wind thinking that the second climb would feel OK due to the huge tail wind. That just left quite a technical decent which I had ride twice before and a short up hill finish.

On the day it all went perfectly to plan and found my self going full gas up the final climb into the ground of the hotel .My time was 56:03 which was over 2 min faster that the predicted Spindata time, when I returned to the HQ I discovered that I had won my Vet age group 55 to 59! And then I was presented with a medal!

I’m super happy with the result and that I made the effort to travel all that way to take part in this event!!

🎨⚽️ YATE UNITED MASCOT COMPETITION ⚽️🎨

We’re excited to officially launch the search for the very first Yate United mascot! 🔴⚫️

This is your chance to design a mascot that represents our club, our values, and our community ❤️

The winning mascot could become part of Yate United’s identity for years to come — appearing across social media, matchdays, graphics, merchandise and more!

💡 HOW TO ENTER:
Each player entering will need to submit:

✏️ A drawing/design of their mascot
📛 A mascot name
📝 A short description explaining the mascot and what it represents

Please also include:
• Player name
• Team/age group

To keep things simple and easy for everyone, all entries will be collected through team managers/coaches, who will then send them over digitally.

The competition is open to ALL age groups across the club 🙌

As well as being a fun club-wide competition, the mascot will also help provide a safeguarding-friendly alternative for social media content where player photos cannot be used.

📅 Closing date for all entries:
30th June 2026

Get creative and help shape the future of Yate United! 🔥

🔵🟡 Jon Santer 🔵🟡

Our second team manager/coach joined us only this season and was a massive part our second xv success achieving promotion. With the team scoring the most points in a single season, conceding less and won the most amount of games. A little bit of history making and only the second coach to come in and gain promotion in their first season.

Jon has built a great culture with the second xv and brought a togetherness which has resulted in players enjoying their rugby and a winning mentality.

Jon not only lead our 2s but also lead our first xv to victories over Chipping Sodbury, in the clubs first ever league meeting between 1st teams, Ashley Down in the quarter final of the cup and Old Sulians away with a mixed squad, all memorial matches.
