It was what you might call a 'Works Night Out' yesterday evening, as I headed over to the Easton Chilli kitchen for one of Rikki's Cookery School sessions, with a range of Sichuan dishes being on the menu. It was great fun and it felt like just the right balance of people on the course to receive sufficient guidance, where required, and I wasn't too surprised to find that two of the other budding chefs are Hot Sauce Emporium regulars. Under Rikki's excellent tutelage, we all managed to produce a delicious meal of Mapo Tofu, served with Jasmine Rice, Smacked Cucumber Salad and Soy Pickled Peanuts, all served up with our own crispy Sichuan Chilli Oil. The evening ended with an opportunity to purchase some excellent Easton Chilli Sauces and Chilli Jams - luckily for me, I already have a shop full!

For anyone interested, I can highly recommend booking one of Rikki's cookery or hot saucemaking classes - you will not be disappointed. You can find details on the Easton Chilli online store, or in the Hot Sauce Emporium. Thanks to Sam for taking the pictures.

A late addition to the Emporium 'Taste of Summer' range...the Limited Edition Bravado Spice Mango & Chamoy Hot Sauce has arrived. This mild to medium sauce perfectly captures the essence of an authentic Chamoy sauce, blending juicy Mango, Tamarind and Hibiscus Flower with the Tajin Clasico blend of chillies, salt and lime. Splash it all over mangos, pineapples, ice cream, grilled chicken or seafood tacos, cheese and much more. I must stress I only have a very limited amount in stock, and Bravado Spice themselves are already sold out.

The Mango & Chamoy sauce is now available from the Hot Sauce Emporium, along with several other sauces from their quality range, including the Serrano & Basil, AKA Miso and just-back-in-stock Black Garlic Carolina Reaper. The Emporium is located in Bristol's historic St Nicholas Market.

I'm pleased to announce that with the arrival of Satan's Lady yesterday, all three of the amazingly flavoursome Karyo Satan's Gravy sauces are now available from the Hot Sauce Emporium. Satan's Lady is a fruity, medium hot sauce containing baked pears, mango puree, orange juice and rind, habanero and scotch bonnet peppers, tomatoes and a whole host of warming spices, and it is seriously so good that you may want to take a swig straight out of the bottle, as I just did.

Satan's Lady, Satan's Gravy and Wang Jam are all available now from the Hot Sauce Emporium, along with a whole host of other quality Bristol-made hot sauces. Find us in the historic St Nicholas Market, located near Bristol City Centre.

A couple of delicious new items to look out for in the Emporium, from two much-loved producers who will be familiar to shop regulars.

First up is Mr Vikkis Habanero Chilli Crisp. This is a brand new chilli oil product, which is presumably the only reason it's not festooned with multiple food awards, because, trust me, this is an unforgettable delight. Made with award-winning Eden Yard cold-pressed rapeseed oil, crunchy chilli, onion, garlic and sh*take mushroom crisp, you may well find yourself eating this one straight out of the jar. Well, I did.

Next up is a new Pain Is Good sauce from Spicin Foods, being the Harissa Hot Sauce. Packed with Red Jalapeno and Birds-Eye chillies, lemon juice, a North African spice blend and mint, this feisty sauce is just crying out for a falafel wrap or tagine served with cous-cous. As ever, the long-suffering Bubba is featured on the label...

Both these items are available to purchase now in the Hot Sauce Emporium. We are located within Bristol's historic

After an early morning visit to the polytunnel today, I realised I'd not shared any chilli pics this year. In truth, it's not been a great year for crops in general for me, for various reasons, but the Padron Peppers are now producing (see delicious plateful!), and the Lemon Drop and Wiri Wiri Peppers are belatedly getting to the flowering stage. As long as we have a warm September, I'm still hopeful for a reasonable crop. If we don't, I'll be in trouble, as I'm banking on a decent crop of Wiri Wiris so that Rikki at Easton Chilli can cook up a fresh batch of the Hot Sauce Emporium Spice Ritual Wiri Wiri Preserved Lemon sauce.

The plateful of fresh tomatillos also pictured are from our friends at OtomĂ, where they are now available to purchase, although you may have spotted a few of my own tomatillo plants in the first picture.

OK, I'm back from my travels, and to celebrate, I'm pleased to announce that we are stocking the often-requested Bristol-based range of sauces, with Satan's Gravy and Wang Jam in the shop right now. Both sauces are made using Scotch Bonnet and Habanero peppers, with sweet tomatoes and cumin coming through in the flavour profile, while the Wang Jam, which also contains Carolina Reapers, is a step up in heat and even sweeter (in a good way!!!). Hopefully, the third sauce in the range, Satan's Lady, will be dancing her way onto the Emporium shelves very soon as well, but in the meantime, for those who have never tried these sauces, I cannot recommend them enough.

The Hot Sauce Emporium is located in Bristol's historic St Nicholas Market, where you can find many locally-made chilli sauces and related products.

Hi Folks,

As of tomorrow, I will digging out my Old Age Punk bus pass and heading off on my annual Punk Pilgrimage to Blackpool for a week, but the good news is that the Hot Sauce Emporium will remain open. I will be leaving the shop in the capable hands of Tanzi and Helen, who should be able to deal with most enquiries, although more obscure questions such as '10 years ago I bought a sauce with a plastic brain on the bottle - do you still sell it?' may have to wait until I am back. That particular sauce was Crazy Jerrys Brain Damage, by the way, and, no, I still can't get hold of any Billy Be Damned...

See you all in a week...

John

In 'second post in as many days' shock, I'm pleased to say we are now stocking Tubby Tom's much in demand new Nashville Hot Sauce. Why is it in demand? Well, as the man himself states, "I'VE BEEN SMASHING THIS DAILY ON EVERYTHING, MY BREAKFAST, MY LUNCH, MY DINNER AND MY DAMN SUPPER!!!!!!!!!!!", and you probably will be too. Made using aged Cayenne chilli mash, Korean chilli flakes, Bulliet Bourbon, Smoked Paprika, Celery, Red Habanero chillies plus a whole bunch more, it's at once sharp, savoury and sweet, and hot enough to give a little tingle without the heat overstaying its welcome.

Tubby Tom's Nashville Hot Sauce is available now from the Hot Sauce Emporium. We are located in the Exchange Building within Bristol's historic St Nicholas Market.

OK, folks, a quick update!!! I've had all sorts of setbacks and diversions lately, hence no recent posts. Anyway, plenty to catch up on, starting with the welcome return of two shop favourites...

Firstly, Easton Chilli Green Viper Sriracha sauce is back in town, and as devoted fans will be aware, it is packed full of Garlic, Lime Leaves and plenty of fermented mild green chillies and Birds Eye chillies - just perfect for stir-frys and noodles.

Secondly, we travel across the pond for the next sauce, and a long-absent classic from the much-loved Queen Majesty Hot Sauce, the Manzano Serrano Hot Sauce, has at last returned. Made with Manzano and Serrano chillies, celery, shallots, ginger, garlic and olive oil, this one is a perfect match for your Summer salads, wraps and sandwiches.

Both sauces are on the shelves now in the Hot Sauce Emporium, located in Bristol's historic St Nicholas Market. Keep an eye out for more new sauce announcements coming soon...
