A massive shout out to all of our incredible runners taking part in the Brighton Marathon Weekend 10k and Marathon today 🫶🫶!!!

Alongside our half-marathon runners from a few weeks ago, they’ve managed to raise over £12,000 for FMG PROJECT 🤯🥳🥳!!! This is incredible and will make such a massive difference to the lives of many local young people over the next year!

We’re also super proud that 4 of our young people will be taking part in the 10k today thanks to our partnership with The Running Charity, where they have been taking part in our youth run club over the past few weeks! Incredible work 👏👏!

Go and smash it everyone!!!!

Statistics are great, but we care more about the growth and individual change that each young person makes on our programmes 🙌. This is why we always ask parents/carers for feedback once the programme is finished, as they know their children better than anyone else and can see first-hand the difference that these programmes can make 💪!

This week, 19 young people completed gym-based coaching programmes with us at FMG Project. All 19 of these young people have experienced major barriers to participation in sport and exercise, with 15/19 not engaging in any form of regular structured physical activity before starting our programmes.

Highlights for me this term:
- A trans young man who is selectively mute leading a cool down as part of his youth-led workout.
- A Muslim girl taking part whilst fasting through Ramadan and beating almost all of her fitness test scores from Week 1 to Week 9.
- Another girl telling me that her confidence has increased so much that she’s started taking part in her PE lessons again since starting the programme.
- A boy who spoke out (unplanned) to tell the participants of his youth-led workout how much the sessions had helped him, as he massively struggles with anxiety, socialising and talking to people.

We’ve now run 31 programmes like this over the past four and a half years and, whilst it has its challenges, it’s a huge privilege for me to work with these young people. They continue to inspire me and I continue to say at the end of every programme that I have the best job in the world!

It was amazing to watch three students from our Alternative Provision programme take volunteers through a workout that they’d planned and created yesterday 💪. They did a fantastic job- the volunteers said it was the best one yet!!!

Another amazing bit of feedback from a local school about our Alternative Provision Programme 🙌!

Did you know- we offer places to local schools for students who are struggling with mainstream education to learn and grow through a gym-based coaching programme, providing them with two mornings per week at our gym, rather than being in school.

This can help young people to increase their social and communication skills, as well as massively boost their confidence, with the support of our expert coaching team 💪.

Talia has been an incredible addition to our youth programmes over the past 2 years, inspiring and supporting young people to grow and thrive ❤️.

She is an amazing coach, embodying the mindsets we discuss with the young people on our programmes. Talia is fun, creative and an all-around awesome human. Last night was her last programme with us (for now 😏) and we wish her all the best for whatever comes next.

WE’RE HIRING 👊

We are looking to hire a coach to support the Head Coach in the delivery of our flagship after-school programmes for 14-18s. These programmes run for 10 weeks at a time throughout the year and take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, 5-6:30pm. These times will not change, so the coach will need to ensure that they are available for these sessions come January. There may be also be opportunities for the coach to also take on more coaching in the future as our organisation grows.
