New term, new class at University of Sussex sports centre dance studio, starting Wednesday 23 September, 7pm.

Open to all, there's no need to be a student or member of the sports centre.

Free parking, or 5 mins walk from Falmer station or bus stop.

Yesterday I stepped into the darkness....
.. and into In Between Time’s installation We Are Warriors – enter the wonderground, found inside the Cab Road Tunnel, Trafalgar Street, underneath Brighton train station. 🌌

Sound swallowed the walls. Light cut through shadow like a blade — and suddenly the tunnel wasn’t empty. It was alive. We were invited to remind ourselves about a warriors in the dark, someone who helped us find our way out of long dark days by being a beacon of light. ⚔️✨

Wu wei often translated as effortless action is doing the right thing at the right time. When in darkness, don't fight it, flow with it, things will change, within the darkness of yin is the opposite dot of yang.

In tai chi, we practice the same principles: soft overcomes hard, yielding defeats force, stillness holds power and unseen movement. Every time we gather celestial energy, every rooted drive the tiger away, is training to be a beacon when the world feels like a long dark tunnel.

The installation asked: What kind of warrior are you?
Not the loud kind. The incandescent kind.
The kind who breathes deep when within the cyclone of chaos.
The kind who stands steady so others can find their footing.
The kind who knows that light is never gone, only waiting to be uncovered like gemstone deep underground.

Where it all began... 🌳

I was back on the Warwick University campus this week for a conference, and I couldn't resist an early morning stroll down memory lane.

It’s amazing how much can change! The space where I attended my very first Tai Chi class is now actually part of the library. The trees have grown tall, and the old roads are now peaceful pedestrian zones.

Walking through those grounds made me realize just how fortunate I’ve been to find this wonderful art. It’s been my greatest tool for navigating "this thing we call life."

Whether you’re just starting your journey or have been practicing for years, remember: every student turned teacher started exactly where you are today—perhaps in a spot that’s now a library! 📚✨
