The Sussex Swans formed in 1991 and are a founding member team of the British Australian Football League and have always proudly been based in Sussex. Although in initial years the club struggled for many wins, this was playing in a London league dominated by big London clubs. Some of these big London clubs have folded over the years, the Swans have just gone from strength to strength and always with a strong emphasis on developing the game and non-Australia players. The 2007 season saw the Swans break into a newly formed Southern England Australian Football League (SEAFL) and saw them playing in a losing grand final in the first two seasons. After winning the 2009 pre-season tournament the Swans had to wait until the 2010 season to fulfill the Grand Final dream. The team are still a force to be reckoned with having won the SEAFL premiership a further two times, once in 2012 and again in 2016,. The latter of which took the team to the 2017 AFL Europe Champions League in Amsterdam. 2017 also saw the team develop the beginnings of a women's team, with numbers continuing to grow week on week.
