🥳 Another fantastic event for the Boys v Girls Comp last night at Brighouse. The weather held off and the incredibly competitive 12 game fixture was enjoyed by all.

➡️ 12 per team
➡️ Girls get 7 start on the cards
➡️ Girls get the Jack
➡️ Played on Green 1 - less familiar to the girls
➡️ Winners will be based on total aggregate
➡️ The “start” for the girls in 2027 will increase or decrease by 1 based on who wins overall.
🤭 It was a very fun, noisy night with everyone getting behind their team to fight for every point. This event always contains everything we love about bowls at Brighouse: bowls, banter and b**r!
1️⃣ Up first was Sammie v Knocker. Knocker pushed hard and at one point was 15-10 up. But Sammie doesn’t give up easily and she fought back, battling to finish with a 21-18 win.
2️⃣ Janice v Masha was a great game. Masha was always going to be up against it, playing crowd favourite Janice. She played fantastically, showing all her years of high level experience. No matter where he took her, she was there. Janice won 21-14 to much applause.
3️⃣ The third card was Gemma v Moxy. Moxy was always going to be a target for the girls as he’d been giving them grief all week. He may have thought he had a dream draw as Gemma has recently been on two holidays and not touched a bowl for weeks. But, it was like she had never been away: Gemma “The Machine” Maloney revved up quickly! However Moxy, like a sneaky snake, got over the finish line first, securing the first win for the boys at 21-19.
4️⃣ Hobby v Mima next. At only 12, Mima was the youngest player for the girls. Hobby played well, taking tactical advantage of playing longer marks. Second win for the boys at 21-8.
🚨 After 4 games, the boys were winning the aggregate by 5.
5️⃣ Starting the next section was Mel v Jamie (Boys Capt). Mel started well, dominating the first half of the game, but Jamie calmly caught up and won 21-16.
6️⃣ The next block was Kath v Dan Dunks. Kath competed, but Dan was eyes down with a laser focus from the start and won 21-9. But he lost all baby-sitting favours for the rest of the year, so who won really?!
7️⃣ 7th block went to Orla v Josh. Probably one of the draws none of the girls wanted; he’s a great guy and an even greater bowler. Orla fought well and pushed to save where she could, but Josh made it home, 21-14.
8️⃣ Next up was Helen v Dale. These two have known each other years so knew exactly what strategies to employ. Both bowled well but ultimately the girls start was too much for Dale to overcome and Helen got home, 21-14.
🚨After 8 games, the boys were winning by 22 points and getting louder by the minute. The girls were rightly worried. The last 4 cards had Boys A Team players name attached…
9️⃣ First in this section was Jodie v Mick. Having beaten Mick last year, Jodie was brimming with confidence (and noise!) and won easily with a final score of 21-11.
🔟 Next up was Ruby v John. John played brilliantly but Ruby managed to keep pushing, finding the right wood at the right time to win important ends - just like John taught her! - and finished first at 21-14.
1️⃣1️⃣ Sarah (Girls Captain) v Bloo followed. Sarah put pressure on from the start and did all she could to keep hold of the jack. She got home 21-7.
1️⃣2️⃣ The girls were down a player for the last card, meaning a blind draw for a girl to double-up. “The Machine” Maloney got the job and fired up beautifully against Fletch winning 21-14.
🏆 In a very exciting final 4 games, the girls fought back, much to the boys dismay. The girls won a total of 7 games and the aggregate by 18.
😮 Next year, the start for the girls decreases by one.
👏🏻 Jamie presented the now infamous mini Trophy to the girls and was very complimentary about all the girls development since they started bowling together a few years ago.
💪 We have a lot to be proud of at Brighouse.
