Remember the ditch missile? Well, here’s what happened after that. 1 bad shot turned into 4 just to get over a ditch I’ve cleared a hundred times.

If I’d taken a drop when I saw how bad the first lie was, I’d have only had 3 to get over 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thankfully a practice round and that’s what they are for - thinks like this. However, can someone please clarify for me:

1. If I’ve found my ball at the other side of the ditch (as I did) but it’s in a terrible lie and I can’t really take proper stance, can I declare it unplayable and drop on the near side of the ditch to the tee box?

2. On the 2nd shot where I can’t actually get foot hole because of the brook, would that be classed as an immovable hazard so free relief granted in the form of stroke & distance, back on the line or 2 club lengths away from the pin? There are no coloured stakes to go from!

Some days the bad shots bother me more than others.

I went and played a practice round last night with a lovely member of the Golf Club called Shona. We pottered about, missed out the holes we wanted to miss out and retook shots when we wanted without counting them.

I practiced my 7 wood (it didn’t go great 😂) and Shona helped with my putting (I’d got into the habit of firing my putts past the hole and she coached me about slowing down. It worked very well).

10/10 for a Friday evening I say!

Only played my first match tonight and won 6-3 🙌🏼

Driver - working reasonably well. The major slice has dissipated somewhat and we now go reasonably straight.

No distance and it looks garbage but better than it was!
