🥋 This Week's Theme of the week🥋

This week we're focusing on hip movement and how we can use it to improve our techniques in both our A.B.Cs (Avoid, Block, Counter) and our kata.

Good hip movement helps generate power, improve balance, and make techniques more effective and efficient. By understanding how the hips drive our movements, we can develop stronger basics and a deeper understanding of Goju Ryu principles.

We'd also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended our Saifa Kata Seminar on Sunday. It was a fantastic session and a real success, with some great training and learning throughout the afternoon.

📸 Photos from the seminar will be online shortly, so keep an eye on our page!

If you'd like to try something new, come and join a class — message us to book your spot, or use the link below to drop us an enquiry on our new app and we will get back to you.

🥋 This Week’s Theme of the week 🥋
Following on from last week's work on flinch reactions, this week we're looking at dealing with throat grabs and single and double-handed holds on shirts or gis.

We'll be exploring practical responses using movements found within our kata, helping students understand how traditional techniques can be applied to common grabbing situations.

A great opportunity to see how kata and application go hand in hand, building confidence, awareness, and practical skills along the way.

🥋 This Week’s Theme of the Week🥋

This week we’re focusing on flinch reaction and what to do when someone throws a punch in a more realistic environment.

Working on awareness, reactions, positioning, and simple, practical responses — turning natural instinct into something more controlled and effective.

A great way to build confidence and understand how Goju Ryu principles can apply beyond the dojo.

🥋 This Week’s Theme 🥋

This week we’ve been slowing our kata down, taking time to focus on each movement and making sure every technique is performed as it should be. Sometimes slowing things down helps us understand the finer details, improve control, and sharpen our basics.

And in this ridiculous heat, the slower pace definitely hasn’t hurt either!

🥋 This Week’s Theme of the Week 🥋

This week we’re working on blocking and striking with the same hand, and then progressing onto blocking and striking with opposite hands — using movements that appear within our kata.

A great way to explore how kata techniques can be applied in a more practical and fluid way, while improving coordination, timing, and understanding of movement.

🥋 This Week’s Theme 🥋

This week we’re working on our A.B.C – Avoid, Block, Counter, with a strong emphasis on the A – Avoid.

Focusing on movement, positioning, and getting off line first, before dealing with the attack.

Simple, effective, and a key part of solid Goju Ryu training.

🥋 This Week’s Theme of the Week🥋

This week we’re focusing on the use of open-handed techniques — exploring how they can be applied for control, sensitivity, and effective striking within Goju Ryu.

We’ve also been putting this into practice with pad work, developing accuracy, timing, and power.

🥋 This Week’s Theme of the Week 🥋

Building on last week’s focus of using blocks in a real-world environment, this week we’re taking it a step further into the takedown.

Working from five key positions — the inside, the outside, using the arm, the leg, and Mawashi Uke — to understand how we can control and finish the movement effectively.

A great progression from defence to control, keeping everything practical and rooted in Goju Ryu principles.

If you’re looking to try something new, come on down and get involved with this week’s theme — message us to book your spot!
