Congratulations to Rob Gill, who has been nominated for the Official of the Year - Match Officials Award at the Cricket Collective Awards.

Rob has regularly umpired for our 2nd XI this year, as well as our Women’s Long Format games. He’s also scored the majority of our U16s games as well as our last two 2nd XI games this season. He’s also regularly seen at other junior and women and girls games, contributing in one way or another.

We are incredibly grateful for his support, and wish him all the best of luck in this category!

🏏FRIDAY NIGHT PREVIEW🏏

Friday night across the UK, welcome to the weekend and welcome along to the penultimate weekend of the season, and the final Saturday of action for our 2nd XI.

Our 1st XI are on the road tomorrow, as they travel south to Bracebridge Heath 2s, looking to overturn the disappointing result from the reverse fixture at the end of June, where we failed to chase down just 89 runs.

Shaun Clark makes 2 changes to his XI from
the side that comfortably beat Haxey last week, as Nick Dobbs and Matthew Oades return to the side in place of Ben Clixby and Harry Wiley.

If you fancy making the trip to Lincoln to watch the 1st XI then please do, but if not as always we will have the score online in the usual places live and direct from Cross O’Cliff Court.

It’s the final game of the season for our 2nd XI, as they bring the curtain down on cricket at Broughton for 2026 when they welcome Messingham 2s to the Rec for their Brigg MOT Centre LTD sponsored game.

Following last weeks disappointing conclusion at Barton there’s a couple of changes to the XI. Skipper Sean Clixby drops out through injury, so Brett Fish will lead the side for this one, whilst Alex Heath is the other name to make way. Ben Clixby and Harry Wiley return from 1st XI duty to take their places back in the 2s.

Any support at the Rec would be welcomed for one last time this summer, so if you are at a loose end then please do go think about supporting the 2s.

Good news! We have a 3rd XI game on Sunday! For the first time in a month our Sunday crew will be out on duty with an away league game at Haxey, and with a spot still waiting to be filled at the time of writing this, we will bring you the line up on Sunday morning on socials, so watch out for it!

All that’s left to say is go well to both sides and here’s hoping both teams can provide a winning outcome tomorrow!

🏏LONG FORMAT RESULT🏏

Vicki Wood brings the curtain down on our Women & Girls sections summer of cricket with her final Long Format match report of the season, as our gang made the long trip to Woodhall Spa on Sunday.

We won the toss and elected to bat first with Katy and Lydia opening.

Katy struck the boundary 4 times and Lydia once. Millie then faced and struck the boundary too. Alice stepped up and produced our most successful spell at the crease: 7 x 4s, finishing on 38 runs. Gail followed and was able to achieve 2 x 4s as well.

We concluded our innings on 134 runs against a strong bowling and fielding opposition.

Bowling commenced with an outstanding 1st over by Alice - Woodhall batters 1 and 3 both dismissed for a duck! The 3rd wicket fell to Poppy as another batter was directly dismissed.

Moments later the 4th wicket fell, bowled by Lydia with another batter clean bowled. The 5th wicket fell to Alice, another direct dismissal. The 6th, 7th and 8th all fell in just 2 overs, all bowled by Poppy and confidently caught by Sofia, Lydia and Millie.

We fell short by just 2 wickets but this was a great performance by all Broughton players.

Work in the field was effective and Sofia had a fantastic match, wearing the gloves behind the stumps, with many great takes.

That draws our 2026 Long Format season to an end, we’ve played 8 matches and with each game we’ve improved in all aspects of the game.

Thank you to all BCC players who have stepped up to play Long Format, our umpires and scorers, and the parents and families who have supported us 😊, as well as our match sponsors UCNL University Campus North Lincolnshire (North Lincs Children’s University) and our section sponsors John Pembs Motors Ltd.

🏏A great all-round performance from our 1st XI saw them ease to a fourth straight victory (in completed games) which, to appease the captain, keeps them just in the promotion hunt🏏
