🏏What a day for Brigg Town CC 1st XI yesterday. 20 points on the road at Normanby Park CC, meaning we are confirmed champions of Lincolnshire Premier Cricket League - Division 3 North with one game to play.

🏏The day started off as expected with Skipper Owen Dunderdale losing the toss. Normanby put us in to bat which worked out well for us in the end, especially for Owen as he scored his first half century for the club, facing 37 balls scoring 6 fours and 1 maximum, but bowled out for 53 in the end.

🏏Abdul Aziz (34) Ishtiyak Rifat (28) and another brilliant innings from Ashraful Alam (74) were highlights of the Brigg innings. Including a huge 6 from Abdul which sailed into the parked cars. We were bowled out for 254 from 40.2 overs. A very strong target set by our batters.

🏏Rifat carried on his fine form bowling from the game vs Caistor 2 weeks ago and struck early with a wicket. Whilst Nick Beacock kept it tight from the other end. Owen’s day got even better when he ran Paul Harrison out with a brilliant direct hit.

🏏Normanby set out to frustrate the bowlers and were patiently keeping out the good balls. Ashraful Alam and Sayed Abu managed 3 wickets between them as Normanby found themselves 50-5 at drinks.

🏏After drinks came the wickets from David Baggott who bowled tight lines and lengths, apart from his first wicket which was a full toss down leg side, caught well by Ash.

🏏Wickets continued to fall and in the end Baggo finished with 4 wickets for 3 runs from 4 overs, Normanby Park were all out for 69 and Brigg Town CC were confirmed as champions.

🏏Special mention to Normanby who let our young spectator Sol come out and have a bat as their “11th man”

🏏After the game we managed to have a few drinks 👀 to celebrate, which is why it’s taken until now to write this post… 😮‍💨

🏏Massive well done to everyone involved in the team this season, and to the skipper Owen Dunderdale for managing to win the league in his first year in charge. Everyone who has played, has made an impact in their own way, and the team spirit has taken us to the top. Congratulations to everyone! 🫶🏻

🏏It’s the Penultimate game of the season tomorrow, and it couldn’t be more important to bring home the 20 points.

🏏Here is your team that travel to Normanby Park needing 20 points to win the league. We currently sit top of the league 23 points ahead of 2nd place Messingham CC 2nd XI, so a win would mean we can’t be overtaken going into the last fixture of the season.

🏏One change to the side that beat Caistor Town CC 2nd XI last time out, as Vice Captain Danny Dewfall is unavailable, meaning we welcome Nick Beacock back into the side.

🏏Normanby Park CC aren’t going to make it easy for us, and we will need to be fully focused. We’re sure it will be an entertaining game, feel free to come and support the team at Normanby, 12:30pm start.

🏏We would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along to our Brigg Town CC Reunion last night. We all had a great evening and raised valuable funds for the club. Everyone who bought a raffle ticket managed to raise a total of £150. Thank you for your support.

🏏Special mentions go to Elsham Activity Centre Yellowbelly Pizza & The Hop Inn - Brigg . 3 local businesses, who were kind enough to donate vouchers for their establishments for the raffle. As well as Andrew Markham for kindly donating one of his books. Your support is much appreciated Thank you very much!

🏏Not forgetting Nigel Fisher for bringing a large selection of old team photos and memorabilia for everyone who attended to look at, as well as his speech about the history of Brigg Town CC, backed up by current skipper Owen Dunderdale who said a few words about the more recent history and his memories of the club.

🏏A fantastic team effort yesterday meant that we managed to take the 20 points from the game. Skipper Owen Dunderdale lost the toss and Caistor put us in to bat on a wet green wicket.

🏏Runs were very hard to come by at the top of the order, we lost Abdul Aziz early on, and Jack Richards (8) and Danny Dewfall (23) lost their wickets after battling well at the top of the order.

🏏With the score at 40-3 Ashraful Alam and Dan Bradley were at the crease. Ash was next to lose his wicket, LBW for 0. Meaning Sayed Abu and Dan Bradley were the new men looking to build an innings.

🏏The pair managed to reach 109 before Sayed (37) lost his wicket, and Dan Bradley (22) shortly after, both trying to increase the run rate late on.

🏏Runs down the order from Ishtiyak Rifat (21) and David Baggott (18) both with some mighty blows took the total up to 168 all out. From a sticky situation early on, we were ultimately happy with the total on a difficult pitch.

🏏Caistor started out pretty quickly with Oliver Barrick looking to take the game to the Brigg Town CC opening bowlers, as the pitch dried out and became batter friendly.

🏏Ashraful Alam managed to work his magic and trap Barrick LBW, and also took the wicket of Mikkonen. Caistor number 4 batsmen Tim Beecroft was getting stuck into the bowlers and finding gaps in the field frustrating Brigg Town as he took the total ever closer to the target score.

🏏Caistor batsmen lost their wickets around Beecroft as Ishtiyak Rifat came on to bowl and produced a brilliant spell in a high pressure situation. Eventually Beecroft (40) was caught brilliantly on the boundary by Ash from the bowling of Rifat.

🏏In the end we managed to bowl Caistor out for 130, 38 runs short of the target. We now only require 1 more win from our last 2 games to secure the league title.

🏏No game next weekend, we are next in action on the 5th September away at Normanby Park CC

🏏Team News for tomorrow’s final home game of the season for Brigg Town CC

🏏The 1st XI take on Caistor Town CC 2nd XI in a massive fixture, as we look to take one more step towards the league title. But we know it will be a tough task vs a strong Caistor side.

🏏Only 1 change to the side that were victorious last week away at Haxey, as Adam Dunderdale makes way for Chris Rodgers.

🏏Hopefully we will be able to celebrate a win at the football club after the game at our Club Reunion, set to start around 7pm.

🏏Please feel free to come and support the lads during the day, and your presence at the football club after the game for the reunion celebrations would be sincerely welcomed.

🏏Brigg Town CC 1st XI brought home all 20 points after a 6 wicket victory on the road vs Haxey CC 2nd XI yesterday.

🏏Skipper Owen Dunderdale continued his fine form of losing the toss, and Haxey CC decided to bat first. Adam Dunderdale and Sayed opened the bowling and both took 2 wickets each.

🏏With the score at 40/4 Some resilient batting from Haxey opener William Scullion and number 6 Alex Lakeland took the total to 71 before a mix up between the wickets saw some good fielding from David Baggott and Paul Neal to run out Lakeland.

🏏Ashraful Alam had a tidy spell of bowling but the batters looked to play him out, Owen made the change and brought David Baggott on to bowl, and he made the difference dismissing Scullion for 45 in his 3rd over. He then went on to take 2 more wickets finishing with figures of 13-3 from 4 overs.

🏏Other wickets were shared by the skipper taking 1 and Ash came back on to take a wicket as well. Finishing the Haxey innings all out for 95.

🏏Jack and Abdul opened the batting in reply, and Abdul was looking to get the game done quickly with some powerful blows, which eventually was his downfall as he was caught out hitting over the top. Jack looked solid and made 23 from 80 balls before getting run out.

🏏We lost Danny Dewfall for 9 runs and Ashraful Alam hit 27 from 25 balls, but managed to score his 2000th run for the club in the process. Sayed and Rifat were our not out batters at the crease. Sayed managed to hit the winning runs for four with a lofted straight drive over the bowler.

🏏This win means that the 1st XI requires 2 wins out of 3 remaining games, to secure the league title. We know this is still a tough task, and not made any easier by the visit of Caistor CC 2nd XI to the Rec next week for our final home game of the season.
