This is a non-profit run club which is achieved through the suppport of Quarry Bank Christ Church and with substantial funding from Quarry Bank Educational Trust. I hold all belts up to and including black belt 1st Dan in the Shotokan style of Karate. I have practised this art for around 40 years and had the privilege of training under Sensei Terry O’ Neil in Manchester, where my love for Karate w
as born and grew! I have seen many changes in karate over the years and I have my own ideas of what it should be about! This is best reflected in the club motto “Karate practise is as much about mastering the self as the martial art. There are many excellent karate clubs in the area, but it is a fact that in order to survive in a commercial world, the cost for the student is high. Equally, in some local areas badly hit by recession, those clubs are not available to some children because of the financial circumstances of their families. To me, this is at odds with the fundamental spirit of Karate which evolved centuries ago in China, Okinawa and Japan. In addition, these are the very children who are likely to benefit from participation in a group activity such as karate. My vision was to start a club where all children can train in the art of karate regardless of their background or circumstances. I want them to learn about it teachings and be able to apply the way of karate to all things in their lives, set against a backdrop of today’s modern society with its stresses and pressures. I want them to be confident and focussed as individuals and to be able to achieve their full potential as they make their way towards adulthood. I have been able to achieve this ambition through the support of Quarry Bank Christ Church and through substantial funding from Quarry Bank Educational Trust, for which I am truly grateful. Our club is non profit making, I take no fee or expenses and all staff are volunteers. I look forward to having the opportunity to train your Son / Daughter in my Dojo and hopefully for many years to come.
