Another high energy and hectic afternoon at the second phase of the Somerset Schools finals today. A lot of top quality, stressful, close matches going to deciders. Evidently all the players were having a thoroughly good time and would have played twice as many matches if they could have. Congratulations to them all. The teams going forward to represent Somerset at the regional stage in Plymouth are Millfield U13 boys, Millfield U13 Girls and West Somerset College U16 boys who were entering the event for the first time. Well done and Good luck! 🥇

Great afternoon at the Somerset Schools U11 team finals. Congratulations to eventual overall boys winners Millfield A and girls winners Somerset Bridge school. Somerset Bridge were also runners up in the boys event and there were some very tight high scoring games. It was superb to see sportsmanship, enthusiasm and courtesy in spades being displayed by all the kids. Some interesting approaches to bat customisation too! U13 & U16 next week.

Feb 19th. A fantastic day at the Somerset schools individual championships. Players from schools including Taunton School, Millfield, Brymore and Enmore competed in u11, u13, u16 and u19 categories with the winners qualifying to go on to the school’s individual national championships, the largest one day TT competition in the UK. The u19 & u16 categories were won by Will Sun and Santolo Livingstone from Taunton School, the u16 by Pierre Joubert from Millfield and a notable mention goes to Somerset Bridge school who, on their first time entering players into these finals, managed to see their players win against Millfield, Taunton School and Enmore, top their groups and face each other in the u11 final. Congratulations to Gabriel Bodariu who won the u11 title at his first attempt. 💪🥳🏆
They will all go on to represent Somerset at the finals in Aldersley. A fantastic afternoon with some really high quality table tennis enthusiastically played in good spirits.

Somerset Schools U13 boys team finals at Blackbrook today. First round is Millfield A v Taunton Prep B and Taunton Prep A v Millfield B. The two winning teams will play off to decide who goes on to the regional finals in Plymouth. Last week saw Millfield defeat Enmore in the U11 teams finals but with both teams securing places for the regional rounds in February. Across the board there has been a fantastic spirit of competitiveness mixed with fair play but as in previous years Millfield are proving to be tough opponents. The final results saw Millfield A beat Taunton Prep A 5:3 to claim the title. The third/fourth playoff between Millfield B and Taunton Prep B ended in a 4:4 draw. Rather than go to countback the boys requested a single match decider between two selected players. A very close match won in a decider by Millfield giving them a clean sweep in 2023. Well deserved, but they had to work for it!

Congratulations to all the Somerset players who won their county finals and will now go on to represent Somerset Schools at the English Schools Individual National Championships. The largest one day TT competition in the country. Thanks to Taunton School for providing the facilities.

The county schools under 16 boys final goes to the fifth. Johnny Chu of Taunton School v Harry Thorne from Brymore. Both boys won their groups to reach the final. Update: Johnny won a nail biting fifth set 12:10. Both boys played exceptionally well.
