🎾What a fantastic day at our Ladies Doubles Club Championships! 🎾
7 pairs took to the court for a fast-paced round-robin format, with everyone playing 36 games each.
The afternoon was filled with great tennis, good sportsmanship, and a competitive yet friendly atmosphere.
A massive thank you to Debbie and Hilary for organising such a fun event and keeping everything running smoothly! 🙌

🏆 The Results
Following an afternoon of hard-fought matches, Linda & Nicky took the title, defeating Anne B & Sue H 4–2 in a close final!
Congratulations 🎉to our champions, well played to our runners-up, and thank you to everyone who came out to play and support! 👏🏆

This year’s Chair’s Award for Club Volunteer of the Year 🏆 will be shared by two volunteers:
Jon Gould and Jon Burton in recognition of their outstanding contribution to Bridgwater Tennis Club 👏👏

🏆Jon Burton
Although Jon spends part of the year in Tenerife, he has for several years organised the twice-weekly Friendly Fours sessions throughout the year. These sessions remain very popular with members 🎾
He has also played a key role in establishing the monthly Saturday tournaments.
Jon also organises and runs the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning charity event, known at the club as the Championship Tie Bake 🍰raising more than £300 each year for Macmillan Cancer Support.
His efforts help bring members together through tennis, cakes, raffle-ticket sales and a strong sense of club community.
Sadly Jon was unable to attend the presentation to accept the award in person.

🏆Jon Gould
Jon willingly took on responsibility for maintaining the astro courts, which need sweeping every three weeks 🚜He is also closely involved behind the scenes, meeting contractors and most recently overseeing the new floodlighting project for the hard courts 💡💡
He has introduced pickleball to the club, which has proved extremely popular.
He also finds time to captain four league tennis teams🎾
Special thanks must go to Jon’s wife, Lynn, for allowing the club to borrow so much of his time.

Congratulations to them both! 🎉 🎉 🎉 very well deserved, and a big thank you from Bridgwater Tennis Club!

🎾 Somerset Ladies 70s round off their season 👏

The Somerset Ladies 70s team wrapped up their season yesterday at Blackbrook, led by captain Mary Buckle.

They faced a formidable Hampshire side, who had already secured promotion to Division 1. Somerset battled hard throughout the day but couldn’t quite get the win this time.

Somerset squad:
🎾 Mary Buckle (Captain, Bridgwater)
🎾 Anne Guy (Bridgwater)
🎾 Sue Howard (Bridgwater)
🎾 Judy Kay (Minehead)
🎾 Sally Thompson (Bridgwater)

The team were also supported courtside by three additional squad members, who cheered them on throughout the day. 🙌

Despite the result, there was plenty to celebrate after a fantastic season of competitive tennis, great sportsmanship and brilliant team spirit.

👏 Well done to Mary and the whole squad on a great season! 🎾
