Match Report: North Newton CC chase down 202 to defeat Ilton CC by six wickets
North Newton CC produced another composed all-round performance to secure a six-wicket victory over Ilton CC 2nd XI, chasing down 202 with four overs to spare.
After losing the toss and being asked to field, North Newton’s bowlers worked tirelessly to keep Ilton in check throughout their 40 overs. Chris Wadham and Luke Haysham were the pick of the attack, each claiming two wickets while bowling with control at key moments. Wadham finished with excellent figures of 2-28 from six overs, while Haysham’s 2-35 helped break important partnerships.
There were wickets for Harrison Thyer (1-20), Jack Williams (1-38), Robbie Baker (1-53) and Scott Hewitt, whose economical spell of 1-18 from six overs, including two maidens, played a crucial role in restricting the hosts. The disciplined effort limited Ilton to 201-8, with wickets shared throughout the attack and pressure maintained from start to finish.
Needing just over five an over, North Newton made a confident start to the chase. John Farley anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 93 from 110 balls, striking 15 boundaries in a calm and measured knock that ensured his side remained in control throughout.
Dan Toft provided positive early momentum with a fluent 28, while Luke Haysham added a useful 18 before Jack Williams finished the game in style. His unbeaten 38 from 37 balls, including four fours and two sixes, provided the perfect support for Farley as the pair guided North Newton to 205-4 in 36 overs.
The victory was another excellent team performance. A disciplined bowling display laid the platform before John Farley’s match-winning innings and Jack Williams’ composed finish ensured North Newton completed another successful chase and collected another valuable league win.
