Chelmarsh Sailing Club More than a sailing club. Chelmarsh offers sailing, paddleboarding and open water swimming in a welcoming environment at Chelmarsh Reservoir near Bridgnorth.

Learn new skills, meet great people and enjoy more time outdoors. Founded in 1965, Chelmarsh Sailing Club is a welcoming watersports community based at the beautiful Chelmarsh Reservoir near Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Today the club offers sailing, stand up paddleboarding (SUP) and open water swimming in a friendly environment for beginners through to experienced members. Chelmarsh is affiliated with

the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and is a recognised training centre offering courses and opportunities to develop skills, gain confidence and enjoy time on the water. Whether you’re looking to learn to sail, try paddleboarding, get involved in open water swimming or simply become part of a great local community — there’s something for everyone.

⛵ Sunday racing at Chelmarsh!

Another Sunday, another chance to get out on the water and enjoy some club racing. 💨

Whether you’re fighting for every second, chasing the boat ahead or simply enjoying being out on the reservoir, Sunday racing is a big part of life at Chelmarsh.

With a mixed fleet on the water, there’s always plenty going on — different boats, different speeds, but everyone sharing the same course and enjoying a bit of friendly competition. 🏁

And with summer starting to give way to autumn, there’s still plenty of sailing ahead of us — we race throughout the year, so the end of summer certainly doesn’t mean the end of the season!

🌊 A slightly choppier Chelmarsh than usual! 🏊‍♀️💨

A big thank you to our three SUP safety paddlers who were out supporting our swimmers last night. 🙌

With gusty winds and some very choppy water, it certainly looked like hard work at times — probably as much of a workout for the paddlers as it was for the swimmers! 🏄‍♀️💪

Our SUP safety team are an important part of our open water sessions, keeping an eye on everyone from the water and ready to offer support when needed. Conditions like these really show just how valuable they are. 💙

And well done to everyone who got in and embraced the waves — definitely a different swimming experience from the beautifully flat reservoir we've enjoyed on some of those summer evenings! 🌊

🏄 SOCIAL PADDLE THIS SATURDAY! 🌊

Another chance to get out on the water and enjoy Chelmarsh! ☀️

Our SUP members are getting together for a Social Paddle this Saturday 5th September, with a 1pm launch.

These relaxed paddles are a great opportunity to get out on the reservoir, meet other paddlers and simply enjoy some time on the water. 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️

All SUP members are welcome — if you're coming along, let us know in the members' group. 👍

Our social paddles are just one of the benefits of being part of Chelmarsh SUP Club.

If you're a competent paddler and would like somewhere to paddle regularly, meet other paddlers and take part in club activities throughout the year, why not come and join us?

🍂 Summer might be ending… but we're not done with the water!

The school holidays are over, the evenings are starting to draw in and there’s definitely a hint that autumn is on its way…

But that doesn't mean it's time to pack away the wetsuit just yet! 🌊

At Chelmarsh, there are still plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy the reservoir.

⛵ Sailing — racing, cruising or simply enjoying some time on the water

🏄 Paddleboarding — social paddles and those quieter days exploring the reservoir

🏊 Open Water Swimming — because a change in season doesn't have to mean the end of outdoor swimming

In fact, some of the best days on the water are still to come. 🍂☀️

Fewer scorching-hot days, changing colours around the reservoir and plenty of opportunities to get outside rather than retreating indoors.

So while we might be saying goodbye to summer…

we're definitely not saying goodbye to life on the water. 💙

⛵ Things get busy at the leeward mark… 👀

Boats converging, sails coming in, positions being fought for and everyone looking for the quickest way around the mark.

A good leeward mark rounding can make all the difference — get the approach right, keep the boat moving and come out ready for the next leg. 💨

And when several boats arrive at once… things get interesting! 😎

This is what we love about club racing at Chelmarsh — whatever you're sailing, there's usually someone nearby to race.

⛵ Sunday racing at Chelmarsh

Another Sunday, another great day out on the water! 💨

Yesterday saw the fleet back out on Chelmarsh Reservoir for some more club racing, with plenty of close competition, tactical decisions and good old-fashioned dinghy sailing.

One of the great things about club racing is that it doesn't really matter whether you're chasing the front of the fleet or battling with the boat next to you — there's always someone to race. 🏁

And with a mixed fleet on the water, there's usually plenty going on wherever you look!

A big thank you, as always, to everyone who made the racing possible — our Race Officer, safety crews and volunteers who give their time so the rest of us can get out there and enjoy it. 👏

⛈️⛵ Well… that wasn't quite how we planned to finish the Nightcap Series!

Last night marked the end of our 2026 Wednesday Nightcap Racing Series at Chelmarsh.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other ideas for the final race, with electrical storms meaning the safest decision was to keep everyone firmly ashore! ⚡

But no sailing doesn't mean no social... 😁

🐟🍟 The fish & chips arrived
🍺 The bar was open
🏆 Prizes were presented
👏 And we had the chance to celebrate another brilliant summer of Wednesday evening racing.

A huge congratulations to all of our series winners and everyone who has taken part throughout the season.

But an equally big THANK YOU has to go to the people who make it possible.

Our Wednesday racing simply couldn't happen without the members who give up their evenings to run races, crew the safety boats and take on all the other duties needed to get us on the water. ❤️

From beautiful summer evenings to those nights when the wind doesn't quite cooperate, it's been another cracking Nightcap Series.

And while last night's racing may have been beaten by the weather...

fish, chips, a pint and good company isn't a bad Plan B. 🍻

Thank you to everyone who made the 2026 Nightcap Series such an enjoyable one.

⛵ There’s nothing quite like a good reach… 💨

Bear away from the wind, ease the sail and suddenly the boat starts to come alive.

Reaching is one of those points of sail where getting the setup right can make a huge difference — ease the sail until it just begins to lift, bring it back in slightly, and let the boat do the rest.

You can see it beautifully in this clip: sail powered up, boat moving nicely and that unmistakable sound of water rushing past the hull. 🌊

It’s another great example of the Five Essentials working together:
⛵ Sail setting
🧭 Course made good
⚖️ Balance
↔️ Trim
🗡️ Centreboard

Small adjustments. Big difference.

And sometimes… just a really nice bit of sailing. 😎

🏄‍♀️ Another crew ready to Walk on Water! 🌊

What a fantastic day for another of our Walk on Water Stand Up Paddleboarding courses at Chelmarsh! ☀️

Today we welcomed a new group onto the reservoir to learn the skills they need to paddle safely and confidently — and judging by those smiles, they had a pretty good time doing it too! 😎

From getting comfortable on the boards and developing paddle technique to learning about safety and enjoying that first proper paddle around the reservoir, it's amazing how much you can achieve in one session.

And congratulations to everyone on completing the course! 👏🎓

If you've been seeing all the paddleboarding happening at Chelmarsh this summer and thinking...

"I wouldn't mind having a go at that..."

This is exactly where to start.

Our Walk on Water courses are designed to give you the skills and confidence to get out on a board and discover what SUP is all about.

And who knows? Today's course could be the beginning of a whole new hobby. 🏄‍♂️💙

We've just passed 2,000 followers! 💙

Over the last few weeks we've welcomed hundreds of new people to our page, with thousands more discovering Chelmarsh through our photos, stories and reels from around the reservoir.

So, to everyone who's recently joined us — welcome to Chelmarsh!

And to those who've been following, commenting, sharing and supporting us for much longer — thank you.

We're incredibly lucky to have a club where there's always something happening:
