Bridgend Athletic 2025/2026 Player of Year Awards / Presenters

Bridgend Athletic RFC held their 54th Annual Senior Presentation at its Ewenny Road Clubhouse on Saturday June 6th.

Club Chairman Paul Hearne welcomed and thanked all sponsors of the club, represented by Simon Apsee (J H Apsee & Sons Removals & Storage), Gareth L Edwards ( Estate Agents) & Club Director David Perry (Church Village Travel) – Club President Wayne Griffiths unable to attend due to family illness.

Paul also thanked the BARFC Committee, Coaches, Players, Volunteers, Bar & Catering Staff led by Stewardess Yvonne Blackburn.

Other speakers were Keir Ennis thanking Liam and Rhys on behalf of the Generals and gave them both gift vouchers. 1st team player Ollie Olds spoke about what the Ath meant to him and recognising fellow players qualities.

The prestigious Club Person of the Year was deservedly won by Gareth Davies for outstanding commitment, while the Senior Player of the Year was won by versatile back Ollie Olds who plays with the same level of skill at either half back position or centre.

Long term retiring Club Safeguarding Officer Angela Bennett became the 1st Female BARFC Life Member.

Back in January 2026, Ethan and his family received the devastating news that no child should ever have to hear – Ethan had been diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma.

What followed was a long and difficult journey through intensive chemotherapy, hospital stays, and countless challenges. Throughout it all, Ethan showed incredible strength, courage, and determination. He truly was a warrior.

As a community, we came together to support Ethan and his family during the toughest time of their lives. The love, kindness, and generosity shown by everyone made such a difference, and together we celebrated every milestone along the way.

On the 15th May 2026, after finishing his last round of chemo, Ethan proudly rang the bell, marking the end of his cancer treatment. It was a moment filled with hope, relief, and happiness. We all believed Ethan's fight with cancer was finally over.

Heartbreakingly, less than three weeks later, Ethan became unwell again. This week, his family received the devastating news that the cancer has returned.

No child should ever have to go through cancer once, let alone face it for a second time.

Ethan is currently in Bristol Hospital, where doctors are hoping he will soon be well enough to take part in a clinical trial that could help blast this disease away once and for all. His family are by his side every step of the way, staying in Bristol and focusing entirely on Ethan and his treatment.

As a community, I am asking if we can once again rally around Ethan and his family. I never imagined we would need to set up another fundraiser, but here we are, and now more than ever they need our support.

The funds raised will help ease the financial burden on the family while they are away from home and unable to work. They will also help towards any additional treatments, travel costs, accommodation expenses, and any private care or specialist treatment that may become available to give Ethan the very best chance.

Let's show Ethan that he is not facing this battle alone. Let's remind him and his family that an entire community stands beside them, supporting them every step of the way.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. If you're unable to donate, please share this page and keep Ethan and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Together, let's help Ethan fight this battle once again.
