League Game No. 4 — Away at Ardrossan

A tough day at the office for the boys today. We never really got into the game, found our rhythm, or played to the level we know we can. AWR were the better team in every area and deserved the result.

We defended well for large parts of the game and stayed solid at the back until very late on. Unfortunately, a high cross from a free kick dipped over our goalkeeper and left an easy tap-in for the opposition.

With around 10 minutes to go, we never really looked dangerous and, in truth, the game got away from us. Our ball movement through the middle wasn’t good enough, we struggled to keep possession, and we didn’t win enough of our 1v1 battles up front. As a result, we never created any serious chances.

The defeat today is the correct result, and we have to be honest enough to accept that.

We know we can and will do better next time. 💪

Saturday 29th August, it’s a lovely sunny morning and we are playing at home in Beith facing Ardeer Thistle Colts.

After the early phases of the game where both team study each other, Bridge of Weir starts growing and creating chances up front.

We have a free kick just outside the box that end just over the bar and a couple of other shots that don’t trouble the goalkeeper.

After about 15 minutes Olly is found on the left wing, cut to the inside and is taken down inside the box.
Unfortunately the penalty is wide and we are still 0-0.
Shortly after Andrew takes a shot which is blocked by a raised hand inside the box and it’s a second penalty awarded. This time Struan slots it at the back of the net for 1-0.

Before half time Ardeer also get awarded a penalty for a foul inside the box but Keegan is ready and saved it low on the stretch. Half time.

The second half we start in the same positive manner creating chances but we can’t find the back of the net to close the game off.

We are awarded a third penalty for another foul in the box but unfortunately this is just over the bar. Still 0-0 but we are getting tired. We have the chance to go 2-0 up but a tap in from the 6 yard box find the post and it’s still 1-0.

On a counter with 10 minutes to go, the opposition finds us unprepared, managed to go past our midfield, cut our fullback out with a nice through pass and a curled effort finds the back of the net for 1-1.

The game ends here and it feels like 2 points dropped today.

Unlucky boys, we’ll need to come back stronger next week.
