Machrihanish Dunes was barely built at all - laid lightly across a protected stretch of coast, its fairways shaped by the wind and the wild grasses rather than a bulldozer. Last week, a group of our golfers experienced something truly special.

Their trip started the way many of ours do - on the links of Ireland. But this one grew into something different. Something further. Something most golfers never get to see in a lifetime of playing.

Lofoten Links. Norway. The northernmost links course in the world.

A green at the edge of the Norwegian Sea. Mountains rising straight from the water on every horizon. Thirty-six holes in a single day, played under a sun that barely set.
This is what's possible when you stop thinking of golf trips as a fixed list of destinations - and start building them around the experiences you actually want.

Some courses make you wait for greatness. Machrihanish gives it to you on the very first swing.

Tucked on the remote Kintyre peninsula, Machrihanish is a links often credited with the finest opening hole in world golf - a tee shot struck boldly across the Atlantic beach, daring you to take on as much of the ocean as your nerve allows.

In 1879, Old Tom Morris extended the course to its full eighteen holes and moved the opening tee to where it still sits today. Very little has needed changing since. The land did the work.

Getting here takes intent. That's rather the point. The golfers who make the journey to Machrihanish tend to talk about it for years afterwards - a course that rewards the effort of reaching it many times over.

In September 2027, the eyes of the golfing world turn to County Limerick. Adare Manor will host the Ryder Cup - the first to be held in Ireland since 2006, and the centenary edition of the match.
