Today Old Brentwoods battled against Sussex County Croquet Club in the Secretary’s shield. Old Brentwoods fielded Simon McKinnon, Derek Code, David Maugham and wife Alison (aka Croquet England Communications and Partnerships Officer). The Sussex County team had Jonathan Isaacs (aka Croquet England President). The all star match also attracted spectators including the Andy (aka Croquet England CEO).

Alison was delighted with the teams 7-0 win, Jonathan kindly supplied the celebratory bottle of red and Andy couldn’t resist getting his own mallet out for a practice session following the matches.

Today we had our first ever roll up day. We had two lots of doubles playing two types of Croquet, with everyone learning a little and laughing a lot.

Then we had our first two junior visitors who popped over after their tennis coaching.

Such a fabulous croquet day 🥰

Alison will be running Pay & Play Croquet sessions at the Laindon Community Centre, Basildon. From 11am to 1pm every Tuesday the indoor mini courts will be waiting for keen players to try croquet and have 'friendly' competitions with friends.

Croquet is a low impact sport, where strategy is rewarded over strength. Alison will be around for the whole session for coaching on the practice area, and the mini court will be for games on a first come first play basis.

Come along, Tuesday's 11am - 1pm, to give Croquet a try.

It's a big day today, not only are we going to be talking all things indoor croquet on the radio, it's our first ever indoor roll-up from 2pm. Come along and join us if you can, more the merrier.

Tune in to BBC Essex at 2pm, Akylah Rodriguez will be talking to one half of the Essex team, winners of the indoor Inter-County Competition. Alison is a member of Old Brentwoods Croquet Club who have been hosting the winter indoor croquet series in a barn in Essex.

Later today Alison will be at Old Brentwoods Club where the Croquet Club is based, for the first indoor Croquet roll-up. Everyone is welcome from 2pm.

It’s exciting times for us at Old Brentwoods, the indoor hoops have been set and are ready to be played on at the clubhouse from Monday.
Then we had a delivery of our Start-up kit from Croquet England, with championship hoops too.
Bring on the 2025 season, and please come to visit us, non-members are always welcome. We offer 🔵🔴⚫️🥳

It’s nearly ready… the final short mat bowls carpet arrived yesterday so off we went to start measuring. The new quarter size court will be a weekly feature in the clubhouse.

Yesterday the mini court was back in George Hurd Activity Centre For Over 50s for 8 croquet players, practicing croquet's, roquet's, clearances, positioning and of course the hoop running. We even managed a jump shot ;)

From April the mini court will also be making an appearance at The Laindon Community Centre & Bar, is this the beginning of some 'friendlies'?
