For over 70 years, the majority of fly fishing lines have been made from PVC -- a chemical that requires plasticizers to make lines functional. From the minute they are made, a PVC line begins to breakdown, leaching plasticizers into the environment and contaminating you and the waters you fish. Once the line has shed enough of these, it begins to breakdown and becomes prone to cracking, even fail

ure. If that's not enough, as it decomposes PVC is known to release Dioxins, a group of lethal bioaccumulating toxins. Consequently, it's virtually impossible to safely recycle a PVC line. All of which is why Airflo never uses PVC. Instead, our lines are made from Polyurethane, and inert, stable, fully recyclable material that requires no plasticizers and lasts longer than PVC.

Airflo Open Heat – Lough Lene, Ireland 🇮🇪

A huge congratulations to The Melvin Hoppers, who secured 1st place at this year’s Airflo Open heat on Lough Lene! Despite challenging conditions, they put in a fantastic performance, landing 22 fish for a total weight of 26kg 740g.

🥈 2nd: The Misfits 15 fish 20kg
🥉 3rd: Munster Mavericks 11 fish 16kg 860g

All three teams have now qualified for the Airflo Open Grand Final in October. Well done to all involved! 👏

Also earning qualification for the Shield Final at Chew Valley in September are:

⭐ 4th: Emerald Islanders 11 fish 13kg 980g
⭐ 5th: Lein Misfits 7 fish 11kg 440g

A huge congratulations to Conor Mcnamee of the Melvin Hoppers on taking top rod on the day with 6 fish for 6kg 980g walking away with a personalised YETI Europe Mug!

This marks the final Airflo Open heat of the year. All qualifying teams will be contacted by email shortly with full details of their qualification and the next steps to help with preparations for the finals.

Finally, a massive thank you to every team that has taken part throughout the season. These events simply wouldn’t be possible without your support, enthusiasm, and commitment. 🙌

Keep an eye out towards the end of the year for Airflo Open 2027 entry details. As always, entries are allocated on a first come, first served basis, giving any 6-person team the opportunity to enter their preferred heat.

The final Airflo Open Heat is upon us! With 10 teams/60 anglers competing at Lough Lene (Collinstown) tomorrow for a chance to qualify for the Airflo Open Final in October and the Shield Final at Chew in September

The teams are competing to the following rules:

• Fishing times: 10:00-18:00
• 2 fish kill - 10 Catch and Release: TOTAL 12 fish
• Time of 12th fish to be recorded / Bonus 1kg Per Hour & 1kg Per Fish Released
• Barbed flies are permitted during Catch & Release
• 1 Brown Trout ONLY. Whether it's in your kill bag or caught and released.
• Drogues are allowed - LLAA rule.
• International rules - Roly Poly is allowed.

Fishing Fees and Permits

Fishing permits are sold in the Daybreak supermarket, so anglers will need to purchase these themselves from the Daybreak for any practice days and the competition day.

All rules have been emailed to team captains on 01/06/26. Good luck to all competing!

A much tougher evening on Lake of Menteith Fisheries tonight - the wind picked up and swung 180 degrees, but 58 anglers caught 173 fish for a rod average of 2.98.

Congratulations to the Tartan Tyers on taking top spot this evening with 34 fish for 68lb! With 28 fish for 56lb, the Military Veterans FF take second, and with 25 fish for 50lb, the Menteith Ospreys. These 3 teams head to the Airflo Open Final in October!

Harelaw FF and Neilston Fly Fishers both qualify for the Airflo Shield Final in September!

Our next and final heat of the year is in Ireland, Lough Lene 21st June!

Congratulations to the Balfron Piscatorials on taking top spot at the Airflo Open DAY heat at Lake of Menteith Fisheries today! They managed a total of 70 fish for 162lb to take top position. Close on their heels in 2nd were FNF Falcons, with 66 fish for 161lb! Snowbee Alba Cats took 3rd place, with 58 fish for 131lb - The top 3 teams head to the Airflo Open Final in October.

In 4th place with 61 fish for 126lb were Fire Cats and Black Bull FFC in 5th with 48 fish for 100lb. Both these teams qualify for the Airflo Shield Final in September!

Menteith fished brilliantly with an excellent rod average of 8.11 between 54 anglers, a total of 438 fish were caught and released in a full C&R match.

The evening heat anglers have gone out, and we can already see fish being caught! Lets hope the weather holds off and the fishing stays as good as it has been throughout the day.

Airflo Open Heat - Lake of Menteith 11th June - Boat Draws

Tomorrow we host the two Scottish heats at the Lake of Menteith Fisheries 🎣

The two heats will be fished to the following rules:

Day Heat Fishing Times: 09:30 - 17:00

Evening Heat Fishing Times: 17:30 - 22:00

As per last year, we will be fishing to full catch and release.

Limit: Full Catch and Release - 12 fish limit / Time 2nd fish caught AND 12th fish caught.

Bonus: Time of 2nd and 12th fish to be recorded. Bonus 2lb Per Hour, 2lb Per Fish released.

Hooks: Barbless or De-barbed flies for the duration of each heat.

Tomorrow we see 9 teams competing at the 4th Airflo Open Heat of 2026 at Llyn Clywedog, looking to secure their places at the Shield Final and Open Final later this year!

They will be fishing to the following rules:

⏰ Fishing times: 09:30am - 5:00pm
👜 Limit: 16 fish limit / 2 fish kill - 14 catch and release
(Only rainbow trout are to be dispatched. All other trout will count on your card as c&r fish (tigers/browns/spartics))
🤛 Bonus: 2lb per released fish, 2lb per hour
(Barbed hooks ARE allowed on catch and release)
