Sunday saw us face a very good youthful Ruston’s side. With 20 players available it was a case of balancing the minutes with the team formation.
Ruston’s were much the better team particularly in the opening 25 minutes, but we managed to pinch a goal against the run of play. Ruston’s played some beautiful football but seemed to find the finish in the final third. This didn’t stop them finding the net and sending us in 1-1 at half time. The second half was much more balanced and we ended the game 2-2!
Credit to the young lads who will do well in division 4 this season.
For us it’s more minutes in the leagues and we remain unbeaten!

A cracking pre season from the lads so far, let’s see if we can keep the momentum this Sunday, as we face Rustons Sports & Social away.

HBWR 6 - 2 Greenbank FC

Credit to Greenbank who turned up with depleted squad but still gave it everything.

We went into this game without a couple of our usual key faces included our Captain Irish. The lads went into undeterred with Tom Hutson beautiful leading the squad and putting himself on the scoresheet first setting the perfect example. We dominated the first half and went in at the break 4-0 up.

The second half we took the foot off the gas and played abit too casually but still a very positive performance.

The game ended 6-2 but some lovely play, great debuts and a nice hat trick from injury returnee Kieran Gibson rounded off a good day for the HBWR.

After last week’s disappointment in having to pull out of our fixture, we’re delighted to be back in action tomorrow! We will play Greenbank FC at Branston with an earlier kick off time of 10:15 at the request of the opposition.

Another hot Sunday but another 90 minutes in the legs.

Our second pre season friendly with lots of debuts. Cranwell started fast, instantly applying the pressure and retaining the ball really well, but couldn’t seem to get the final ball in the final third. It took 20 minutes for HBW to get going in any form but the pressure was slowly lifting and the game was much more even. After another 5 minutes and a formation change we found ourselves getting the better of the possession and slowly progressing further and further.
Half time came with neither side notching on the scoreboard.
A couple of subs and we got back out for the second half.
A much better start to the second half and it wasn’t long before Tom Hutsons header had the keeper scrambling and unable to clear his lines. 1-0 HBWR!
From this point we seemed more on top and applying the pressure. Another 10 minutes some more changes and the game became a slog fest with neither side quite getting the ball through the final third.
The last 10 minutes came and it was a case of just seeing the game out.
Final whistle blown and Toms goal was the decider, all in all a positive performance from a squad that’s building well.

Sunday saw us play out our first game of pre season. A stripped back bare bones squad on a hot Sunday was always going to be a challenge. Fortunately our opponents (Harby) were suffering a similar situation starting the game fielding their manager to make the numbers.

The first half saw us go 2-0 up before a hydration break. With goals with Jack Wallhead, and a well placed SHOT near the byline following a corner from Josh Wray to double the lead. The break saw the withdrawal of our first injury to our already depleted squad take. After the drinks break we fought on but took too long to get going and struggled to settle into shape, seeing the opposition have the better of the possession and bringing the score back to 2-1. Unfortunately the opposition doubled up and sent us in at half time 2-2. A few minutes before the half we suffered our second injury which made things even more difficult.

A change of formation and positions the lads went back out and gave it their all. Many throughout playing in unfamiliar/secondary positions. Mid second half and captain Irish delivered a tantalising free kick straight into the box, Tom Hutson channelled his inner shearer and calmly put it past the keeper.
3-2 and the game was very end to end. HBWR managed to keep them out and finish the first game of pre season with a win!

Massive credit to Harby, a good bunch of lads who will do well this season.
