We’ve been slack again with the updates! Apologies!!
Yesterday we played Belton away. A game that’s always been a good tough battle, after beating them from 3-0 down at half time last season, and being beaten 5-2 after a poor performance this season. The HBWR knew they were travelling for a solid game. Light on our feet due to Easter weekend and a few injuries. We knew we needed to put in a solid performance to come away with anything! The game saw Elliott Dixon take the armband to begin with, in the absence of both captain and vice captain, until Tom Hutson made his appearance from the bench.
From the off the game was very balanced, neither side managing to really get on top. Until 17th minute when our donkey of the day decided to shield the ball out to give Belton a corner. After half clearing the ball we failed to pick up the man on the edge of the box, whose deflected effort found the net.
A massive sucker punch for the boys in green and from their reaction to going behind we feared the worst.
Thankfully HBWR really stepped it up, and despite the two dives from the usual Belton suspect going unpunished the lads kept their composure and created the much better chances. Unfortunately half time came too soon as HBWR were completely on top, after numours chances just didn’t fall for us.
Half time 1-0 down players with ni**les, it was always going to be a difficult second half. Two subs made one through injury.
The second half came which saw
HBWR have a few early chances as josh Heathershaw managed to break the line a few times, unfortunately Belton were quick to react and we couldn’t capitalise.
Belton had come out a completely different side however, and started to play some lovely football, for periods it appeared they were moving the ball about for fun and it didn’t take much to play straight through us.
53” Belton go 2-0 up which really seemed to sink the hearts of the already struggling HBWR.
58” 3-0 down another ni**le becoming too much so more subs used.
A slight shift of players in the formation saw us manage to keep Belton out for abit longer and with more ni**les getting worse we made our final couple of subs. Onto the 87” Belton completed their scoring making it 4-0 with HBWR dead on their feet.
Full time 4-0
A difficult one to take as a side we knew we could do better. On reflection a change in formation may have helped, a bit of disappointment in some of the referees decisions. But definitely a combination of Belton stepping it up and us dropping off saw them deservedly take all the points.
Donkey - Ian Bourne - shielding out the ball for a Belton corner
Motm - Alfie Stone - solid performance all game.
