Empire De Maulde picked up an injury at Kingston Blount during his win yesterday.
It looked like a small nick on the side of his lower leg, but it turned out to be a puncture wound from a piece of birch.
He had it scanned and had the wound flushed out.
Luckily if didn’t show any serious issue.
So with that outcome Impy and Empire went early this morning to join Count Simon on a well deserved holiday after their amazing season.
Hopefully they have plenty of sun tan lotion with them.

That’s it 2025/2026 season is over for us. The last runner Empire De Maulde ran today at Kingston Blount.
We ran him in the novice riders and was again ridden by this seasons Champion Lady Novice Rider Katie Featherstone
It was over what I consider is his best trip 2miles 5 Furlongs
They went a good gallop and Katie held him at the back early in the race with 5 fences to go Katie had stared to move up the field and was in second place feeling in the front running Senior Citizen who unfortunately fell at the next fence. ( senior Citizen was fine but I believe Alfie suffered a broken collar bone) wishing him a speedy recovery.
Empire went on and won the race by 25 lengths easing up before the line.

It has been an amazing 8 weeks for the Gunshot Paddocks Racing Club and Kate and between us we have won 9 races and finished 2nd 5 times in 14 runners in what has been a fantastic climax to our season.

Well no Stratford so tomorrow we head to Kingston Blount ( not the same prize money on offer though 😂)
Oh well at least we were given the extra day to make an entry.
Been an interesting week at Gunshot Paddocks.
Spent a few hours in hospital Wednesday morning having stitches in my head after being head butted by my filly.( Coronation Lilly) no sense no feeling the medics told me.
Luckily I was out in time to allow Lucie to shoot up ro Doncaster with Kate in order try and purchase a replacement horse for Count Simon who’s retired.
They did manage to find one, from one of the ones we had earmarked. Although most were being sold well over our budget.
So next season Kate and Lucie’s purchase “Harper Valley” will be interesting to follow. He’s won five hurdle races and been placed 10 times in his 25
runs.
He had one Point to Point in Ireland falling at the last when he was leading.
He hopefully, will turn out to be another great bargain buy for us. ( we certainly don’t have the big budgets of a lot of the other stables) but the horses always seem to do the business for us.

It must be Lucie’s feeding, and Chris giving them the Pre-race chat and a carrot or polo that makes it happen.

Back to tomorrow

Empire is entered in both the Novice riders and the Mixed Open races.
He is definitely good enough to win either. Although he has level weights with Jenny Owen’s The Big Lense, Boris will take 5lb off his back so it means probably the novice riders is the race for him. although he will give most horses 15lb with his 10lb penalty and a lot of the other jockeys claiming 5lb it’s still seems an easier task, plus it’s his ideal trip.
Hopefully it will be another fantastic day for the racing club and we can look back on another great season with the boys and give them all their summer holidays, and come back fighting again next season, and if we get to Aintree again
This time I will get a leg up and NOT use the loading ramp wall to get on him, so he actually gets his chance to race.

Well that’s our Point to Point season finished.
Just two runners to go at Stratford on the 29th
Horse and Hound Cup
Imperial Esprit he will be ridden by Charlie Marshall as Seb is still recovering from illness.
Empire De Maulde will go in the Ladies Final and be ridden by Amber Jackson-Fennell.
Both running in the opposite races they ran in last year.
Impy will appreciate the extra 5 furlongs and Empire will be over his ideal trip.
I think Empire will win the ladies final and Impy should run his normal great race at Stratford and hopefully be placed.
Then they all have their well deserved summer breaks.
We had a slow start this year but have ended with a great run of wins and second places
8 wins and 4 seconds in the last 12 races absolutely fantastic and it makes us proud of what we achieve with our small string and even smaller budget.
Hope you have all enjoyed following the page agin this season and with a bit of luck we will be posting our great day at Stratford in 10 days time 🤞🏇🏽🥕🏆

After he won yesterday at Peper Harrow Count Simon announced his retirement from racing and headed straight to Gatwick for his easy jet flight to Corfu and was straight on the tequila sunrise.
Agree 31 races for us
11 wins
6 seconds
1 third places
Plus a 12th win with a Walkover{ he scared off his rivals at Penshurst)
He has retired and goes enjoy his life with his new owner this season Kate Kidney.
It’s been a privilege to train Simon for the last 5 seasons he’s been a real dude in every way.
Thanks Simon for all the joy you have bought to the jockeys who won on you the Gunshot Paddocks Racing Club and for Kate Kidney this season. And finally for the great days he has given me and Lucie.
He’s a legend in our eyes.

Count Simon winning the ladies open at Peper Harrow yesterday beating Alan Hills Learntalot a short head in a thrilling finish. ( A great way to finish his racing career last 3 races all winners)
Another fantastic ride by this years Champion Novice lady rider Katie Featherstone
Who yet again took the shortest route taking the inside on the final
Bend.
Katie’s last 4 rides for us have all been winners and we are glad we have helped her to win the title.

We are coming towards the end of another great season with highs and lows as always.
We started the season with high hopes for all 5 horses we had.
Unfortunately Earths Day our home bred horse never got the chance to shine this year on the course, as different things kept stopping his progress, and towards the end it was going to be to much of a rush on him to get enough education into him for his first race, so we stopped with him and will start him again during the summer and have him ready for his first race next season probably a bumper race at Larkhill ln December. He’s a very exciting prospect and we didn’t want to rush him in order to get one race into him this season.
Callmedusty. We decided not to continue with this season as he had a tendon issue and combined with a bleeding problem and wind problem. We thought that letting him go to something different was the best thing for him.
The other 3 boys have all been amazing and after a few setbacks have flourished again
We have ended the season on fire, and hope to continue this over the next few weeks.
This Saturday we go to our local track Peper Harrow with Imperial Esprit in the Mens Open, and Count Simon in the Ladies Open. I think
Both of these boys have an excellent chance of winning to continue our fantastic run.
Then we will take Simon for his final race(Before retiring) in a fortnight possibly at Kingston Blount Simon has been an amazing horse for us winning 11 times. Hopefully 12 by Saturday evening.
Imperial Esprit is really at his best again and he will be hard to beat on Saturday. He will then go to Stratford for the Horse and Hound Cup. The 3.5 race will really suit him.
Empire De Maulde will also go to Stratford for the Ladies Final, and I honestly can’t see him getting beaten on the form he is in.
We won’t be winning the 5 and under title but could possibly have been contesting it if we never had the 2 walkovers at Penshurst.
Thanks to everyone who follows our horses and this page.
Both Lucie and myself put so much into our horses so it’s great when things go well.
A big thank you to the Gunshot Paddocks Racing Club members who help out with some of the costs each season, and we appreciate everyone who helps along the way.
Let’s finish the season with a Big Bang and a few more winners. 🏇🏽🏇🏽🏇🏽🏆🏆🏆🤞
