🎲 What’s On This Week at Outside The Box?

This week’s big one is Distilled! 🥃🍸

We’ve been looking forward to this one. We even did a little research trip to a real distillery – purely in the interests of understanding the game better, obviously. 😇

On Thursday evening we’re teaching Distilled, with the option for those who already know the base game to try the Cocktails expansion. It’s part of our We Read The Rules So You Don’t Have To series – we teach and play the entire game with you.

This photo is from a Worker Bee Market we did a while ago – and we’re back with them this Saturday for Bramhall Wellness Day! 👋

We’ll be there from 10am–3pm with more of an information stall this time, talking about all the things we do at Outside The Box that you don’t need to bring someone with you to enjoy.

If you’d like to meet people, get out of the house, play some games or simply have somewhere friendly to go, come and have a chat with us. 😊

Introducing our new Light & Lovely Games Club! 🎲😊

We wanted to create a regular afternoon for people who fancy playing games, meeting people and having a bit of fun – without needing to be an experienced board gamer.

Light & Lovely Games Club is all about accessible games that are easy to learn, played at a relaxed pace. We’ll choose the games, explain how to play, and help everyone get started.

It’s also very much a come-on-your-own kind of club. You don’t need to bring somebody to play with, and you certainly don’t need to know any of the games beforehand. Just turn up and we’ll get you involved.

Our first session had plenty of chatting and laughing, alongside a little Magical Athlete, Things in Rings and Hues & Cues – which is pretty much exactly what we hoped for. ❤️

📅 Every Thursday, 3–5pm
👋 Drop in – no booking required
💷 £2.50 per person per hour

If you’ve been thinking you’d like to get out a bit more, meet some new people or discover some new games, this could be a lovely place to start.

⚽ It’s match day!

I had such a lovely evening last week playing Superclub: The Football Manager Board Game with my brother and two of his friends.

My brother won, but only because he got all the lucky dice rolls, and I got all the unlucky ones! 😄

And with a full day of Premier League football ahead of us today, it seems a good time to mention that football doesn't have to stay on the telly!

⚽ We have Superclub: The Football Manager Board Game in our games library – it's surprisingly easy to learn the rules.

🏆 We also have Wembley, for something a little more old-school.

And, of course, our own Outside The 15-Yard Box Fantasy Premier League is now well underway – because we like to make a game out of everything! It's not too late to join, so email us at [email protected] if you'd like the code.

Our free weekly get-together for games, chats and good company. Come on your own – we’ll make sure you’re included.

📖 Thursday 3rd, 6.30pm – From Eldervale to Everdell

Part of our We Read The Rules So You Don’t Have To series. Think fantasy settings, worker placement and building your own little realm. Everdell (with Bellfaire expansion) is the cosier and more approachable of the two. Dwellings is a bigger, more confrontational experience.

Our new weekly Scrabble Club! No need to book – just turn up and join us for a game.

We’re popping up in Bramhall Village Square for Bramhall Wellness Day on Saturday 12th September! 🎲🌿

Did you know that your mental wellbeing can be boosted by putting your phone down, sitting around a table and playing a game with another human being? 😊

So from 10am–3pm, we will be at the Worker Bee Market offering our FREE 5-Minute Digital Detox.

🙂 Have a chat with us about the café, our games and everything we’ve got going on

There’ll be lots happening around Bramhall throughout the day, including free exercise sessions, wellness treatments, tastings, activities and the Worker Bee Market itself.

And if your preferred form of wellness involves bluffing your friends and pretending you have a much better hand than you actually do... we’re finishing the day back at the café with our Texas Hold’em Poker Night from 7pm–10pm. Just for fun — absolutely no gambling! ♠️♥️♣️♦️

Yesterday we escaped the café for the morning and headed to the Hachette Manchester Games Day! 🎲 Hachette Boardgames UK

Obviously, when we spotted this GIANT MicroMacro map, we had to get a photo in front of it. 🔎🗺️

If you've never played MicroMacro, you spend your time poring over an enormous illustrated city map, following characters, spotting clues and trying to work out exactly what happened. It's basically Where's Wally... but with crimes to solve! 🕵️

We've got both MicroMacro: Crime City and MicroMacro: Kids in our games library – and, as it happens, our ridiculously huge tables are absolutely perfect for spreading those enormous maps out. 😄

So if you've been wondering why on earth a board games café needs such big tables...

This is why! 😂
