Saturday saw us face Ecclesfield Red Rose in our final game of the season

We were struggling as both Tez and shaun were playing injured, Ryan and Ben had to leave early and we had just 1 sub, so Matt and Mark were kitted up ready

The game was close, we started really well but after 10 minutes went to pieces and seemed void of ideas, they capitalised and went 1 up

Shaun and Woff ran straight into each other, Woffy came off worse and ended up in hospital the next day with his knee.

Half time ERR 1-0 Zion

Second half we were much better and in control, Tommy fired us level with a beautiful volley before Danny T did his Gary Lineker routine and poached a keeper parry, Shaun had a good run ending in a shot but hit the post, pretty sure if that went in their heads would have gone.

Sinny came off with a calf strain with 30 to go and Ryan left early seeing Matt (47), Alan (55) and Mark (61) all on the pitch together for the first time this season against a team of teenagers, but we looked comfortable and in control.

Then with a just a few moments to go Ecclesfield fired a cross/pass into our box, it bounced off the floor and hit their wingers arm, from that he got control, shot, hit the cross bar and their player put away the rebound, the goal was allowed as the ref didn’t see the hand ball, gutting

Final score 2-2

Another good game to wrap up a brilliant season, our best points tally for over a decade.

Thanks to all the players for a great season, Zion Evangelical Church for its prayers and support, the Queens hotel for our chip butties often at short notice and Financial talk for sponsorship

Finally good luck to Ecclesfield red rose, hope to see you next season

Faced joint top of the table Don Valley this morning in a very even competitive game.

The hard ground and wind saw both teams making loads of errors but both teams were trying their best to play football

Zion went 4-5-1 whilst DV went 4-3-3, both teams created chances with Wesley Roscamp keeping Zion in the game and Valleys keeper keeping Valley in it,

Half time 0-0

The second half saw Valley almost immediately go 1 up but Zion just kept going and started to work through the gears, Valleys keeper pulled off an amazing save from Danny T’s looping shot.

Mid way through the half a shove on Tez saw the ball fall nice for Valley and they went 2 up.

Zion changed formation and continued to push, hitting the stansion and getting balls into their area but to no avail

Final score Don Valley 2-0 Zion

Good game but disappointed to lose.

Good luck to Valley in their final few games

Yesterday was Zions final home game of the season and we entertained Sheffield Union, a game which we thought would be close but believed we could win.

How wrong we were, the first half was our worst performance for a long long time, it was like we had never seen a football before and was scared of it.

Half time Zion 0-6 Union

Second half loads better, much more like our normal selves and a complete turnaround, this half we had them pinned in

Unfortunately they had a good keeper, a good cross bar and we missed some chances including from the penalty spot.
Kayode Johnson Awoleye and Allott Ben did bag their chances and the second half performance did salvage some pride but that first half will live long in memory for the wrong reasons

Final score Zion 2-6 Union

Next week we’re away to Don Valley Fc

Today saw quite a different Zion side due to our ko being at 2pm

We faced Dukes of York in a friendly and had two debutants as we looked at potential recruits for next season.

The weather made this a game of two halves blowing strongly down hill, and it didn’t take long before we were 1 up, direct from a Chaz corner.

Dale Holman made it 2 nil around the half hour mark but complacency saw Dukes pull 1 back before half time

Second half was mainly Dukes with them shooting down hill, and another error by us gave them a clear sight of goal and 2-2

We remained working hard and keeping them at bay whilst having the odd attack until about 10 minutes out when Woffy finished off a Mel lay in their box and we got the win

A good run out to keep the fitness up, check out a couple of players who both had good debuts and see some old faces who came to watch us

Thanks to Dukes who travelled over from York for the game, and as ever to the Queens for our chip butties

Today we were at Warminster road to face Sheff Union, but a few players down.

We again went 5-3-2 and again battled hard but Union are a young fit side and just kept pushing and pushing.

The half ended 0-0 with neither team really creating much until the end when Union shot to what they thought was an empty net only for Terry to slide in and clear it

Half time saw us knocked when motm at that point, Sinny needed to come off injured.
We went 4-4-2 and introduced Alfie Cardwell and Isaac Roscamp into the game to give us energy.

The game remained 50/50, we were creating more but still nothing really clear.
Then with 15-20 mins to go Union hit an absolute belter which gave Wes in our net no chance and the goal deserved the celebrations.

We didn’t give up though and kept going then with 10 to go we saw the most bizarre goal I’ve ever seen at Zion, we had a corner, players go up to head it but the keeper gets it, momentum takes one of our players into the keeper who goes into the net by a foot and a goal is given.

1-1, Union obviously argued it, we were a bit baffled but the ref was adamant, so the game went ahead.

With a few minutes left we created 2 chances, one for Matt and 1 for Isaac and a free kick for them but it remained 1-1.

A good friendly game on the whole as it should be although it did have a player flip on the barrier and smack hard on the road and Nat got kicked in the head but no one questioned either challenge suggesting nothing malicious with either.

No game next week, we return for a friendly on the 14th.

This morning we faced top of the table Hammer & Pincers Reserves who had beat us at their place earlier in the season in a great match

We went 5-3-2 and played well but they pushed hard with a 4-3-3 formation, they hit the crossbar and post as well as us blocking many shots with full blooded defending by Allott Ben, David Inns & Joel Moore plus some good saves from Wesley Roscamp in the net

After the half hour mark passed they did get a goal which was disappointing but despite the knock we got straight back up and continued to play, not giving them an easy ride

Then with what proved to be the last kick of the first half Mark Woffenden created a chance and did a beautiful lob to put us back init.

We made 3 subs at half time and changed to 4-4-2 and along with Woffs goal it must have thrown them as they seemed to struggle in the second half

Where they had been full on and not giving us any time on the ball we appeared to be a lot more comfy, despite them having an extra man in the middle

Elijah Roscamp on the right wing caused them no end of trouble and eventually the effort paid off when Woffy scored his second, then within minutes Elijah was taken out in their box, Woff slotted the penalty home and we were 3-1 up.

With around 20 to go we didn’t slack, we knew what they were capable off so kept battling for every ball

Thankfully a few of the H&P players seemed more interested in Sinnys blonde highlights than the football which helped us massively.

With 6 minutes left they pulled one back dancing through our defence which made it a little tense, but it was against the run of play and we just kept going until the ref blew the whistle for us to get a great 3-2 win, and well deserved.

A good showing from both teams back at the Queens for chip butties too after the game

We wish Rich and the H&P boys well for the rest of the season as they are pushing for the title
