EASTERN COUNTIES SECOND COLTS PITCH UP & PLAY / BARBARIANS SUNDAY

60 BOYS : 8 CLUBS : 3 TEAMS

Eastern Counties hosted their second pitch up & play / Barbarians event for Colts players on Sunday at Stowmarket.
This was aimed particularly at those clubs who, for whatever reason, were struggling to raise a full side.

Mid Suffolk Barbarians, made up of players from Ipswich, Hadleigh and Stowmarket were in attendance. Braintree provided 12 players, joining up again with Wisbech who provided 7.
Harwich & Clacton turned up with 15 between them, and were joined by 3 lads from Saffron Walden.

3 sides all played each other, playing 2 x 20 minute each way games.

MSB were the strongest, but scores were not kept, and everyone helped each other in ensuring a positive afternoon’s rugby for all, and that 60 boys played a game when otherwise they wouldn’t have had the opportunity.

There was a splendid atmosphere on the touchline, and everything respected rugby’s core values.

A reminder that Academy pre-season training starts tomorrow (Wed 8th August) 7.00 - 8.30pm and will then be on every Wednesday at the same time. All U17 & U18 players welcome.

Good luck to the “Academy old Boys” playing in the Braintree 7’s Rugby, Music & Beer Festival taking place today. Play well and have loads of fun!

Join us for what will be a great day of rugby, with free training sessions for children from age 4 to 18 in the morning, followed by Touch Rugby for everyone in the afternoon (this is a fun non-contact game that everyone can join in). Our bar and kitchen will be open all day, and there will be free bouncy castles for the children to use. (Please note: the youngest age group for 4 to 6 year olds, Bumbles, is usually oversubscribed, so if you are interested in joining us for a trial session, please contact Corinne at [email protected]).
