Great Horton Park Chapel 1st XI v Warley & Elland 1st XI
Great Horton Park Chapel produced a superb all-round team performance to secure a comfortable six-wicket victory over Warley & Elland in the Halifax Cricket League First Division on Friday evening.
After losing the toss and being asked to field, Chapel's bowlers and fielders combined brilliantly to restrict the home side to just 83 all out in 30.2 overs. Despite a determined 36 from M. Iqbal, Warley & Elland struggled to build any meaningful partnerships against a disciplined Chapel attack.
The bowling honours were shared throughout the side, with M. Jordan leading the way with an excellent spell of 3-18. N. Khan provided outstanding support, claiming 3-27, while W. Khurram continued the pressure with figures of 2-14. M Hustler and B. Yaqoob taking one each to completed a superb bowling unit effort from the away side.
The fielding performance was equally impressive and played a major role in the victory. Chapel backed up their bowlers superbly, taking their chances throughout the innings. In particular, B. Yaqoob and W. Khurram produced outstanding catches that helped maintain the pressure and prevent Warley & Elland from recovering.
Chasing a modest target of 84, Chapel approached the task patiently despite losing a handful of wickets along the way. C. Ramsden and M. Hustler both made valuable contributions by reaching double figures and helping guide the innings towards the target.
With victory in sight, P. Artist and R. Bavington ensured there would be no late drama. The pair remained unbeaten on 11 and 17 respectively, calmly steering Chapel to 84-4 in 24.1 overs and sealing a well-deserved six-wicket win.
Although M. Iqbal completed an impressive individual performance for Warley & Elland by claiming 2-19, Chapel's controlled chase never looked seriously threatened as they completed a comprehensive victory.
It was a performance built on disciplined bowling, sharp fielding and sensible batting, earning Great Horton Park Chapel valuable points and continuing their positive form in the First Division.
