Match Reports

It hasn't happened often this year but it was great to see both teams secure victories.

Without overseas Asad and all rounder Tom Burton, the 1st team piled on the runs to post 269-8. It was very much a team performance with contributions throughout the team. Farakh Hussain top-scoring with 44, Nate Holdsworth making 41 and Adam Brown 35.

Birstall were then bowled out for 128 in 30 overs as Mahleb Mahmood (3-28) and Daniel Cross (3-35) proved to be the best of the bowlers as we secured an emphatic 141-run victory to collect the full 20 points.

The first team are still bottom of the table and go into the final game at South View Road today against Batley needing maximum points to stand any chance of a miracle.

The second team made it three wins in a row with a 17-run victory over Farsley at South View Road. Ross Monaghan top scored with 61 from 70 balls with seven fours and two sixes as we posted 238-9 batting first. Sam Wilby and Tom Hoyle both made 34 in a 60 run partnership as wickets started to fall.

Farsley soon fell to 46-4 in reply. However a hundred partnership made the lads have to work for victory. Farsley were eventuallly dismissed for 221 securing a 17-run victory and 19 points.

The 2nd team travel to Batley in the final game of the season.

🎯🚨 B TEAM MATCH REPORT — QUEENSBURY EDITION 🚨🎯

NEW DOLPHIN 5–2 EAST BIERLEY B

There are some away days where you travel miles, play some brilliant darts, enjoy yourselves and come home happy.

And then there’s this one. 😂

A long trip up the road to Queensbury, only to discover that apparently the sat-nav had been directing us towards a 5–2 defeat all along. 🤣

Things started brilliantly…

Well, no.

Tom was first up and unfortunately came across a bloke who can only be described as Gerald from Clarkson’s Farm. 🧑‍🌾

We’re still not entirely sure whether he was there to play darts or milk a cow, but unfortunately he could chuck a dart and Tom went down 3–1.

Then came Gemma, who deserves massive credit.

A last-minute addition due to the lack of available players, she stepped up, battled bravely and went down 3–1.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the background, Captain Rob was probably wondering why he’d volunteered to organise this team in the first place. 😂

Thankfully, Lee — the ever-dependable Lee — decided enough was enough and finally got the Bierley engine running.

🎯 Lee wins 3–2.

Normal service restored.

Briefly.

Jay was next and unfortunately went down 3–1, before Malcolm completed the singles with another 3–1 defeat.

So after the singles, we found ourselves staring down the barrel of:

NEW DOLPHIN 4–1 EAST BIERLEY

At this point, with players apparently becoming rarer than a clean darts board, non-playing captain Rob had to get off his managerial throne and actually pick up a dart.

😂

Rob teamed up with Gemma, who had only been drafted in at the last minute, and somehow — against all the odds, logic and possibly even the laws of probability — they managed to grind out a 3–2 victory.

👏🎯

Suddenly…

4–2.

A comeback was on.

Well…

It wasn’t. 😂

Lee & Steve went up for the final doubles and were promptly dispatched 3–0, putting an end to any hopes of staging the greatest comeback since Lazarus.

🏁 FINAL SCORE:

🔵 NEW DOLPHIN 5–2 EAST BIERLEY B 🔵

So, after making the long journey to Queensbury…

We came away with absolutely nothing to show for the mileage. 😂

But fair play to everyone who turned up, especially Gemma, who was thrown into the team at the last minute and still managed to get herself a doubles win.

Seven games.

Five defeats.

Two wins.

Several miles travelled.

Zero points collected.

Could’ve saved ourselves the petrol really. 🤣

🎯 ONWARDS AND UPWARDS, B TEAM!

Because surely it can’t get any worse…

Can it? 👀

Darts is back at East Bierley

🎯🔥 SOUTH BRADFORD 2ND PLACE LAST SEASON… EAST BIERLEY’S FIRST VICTIMS THIS SEASON! 🔥🎯

Well, well, well… 😏

The A Team have kicked off the new season with a 4–3 victory over last season’s 2nd-placed South Bradford Golf Club.

And what a night.

South Bradford arrived full of confidence… and even brought along one of our former players, Joe “Vegas” Worsnop 🎰

We can only assume they thought bringing an ex-Bierley player back would give them some inside information.

It didn’t. 😂

Things got off to an absolutely horrendous start for us when last season’s star man Nick Ingham decided that 3–0 down was apparently the best way to announce his return to competitive darts. 🤦‍♂️

Cheers Nick. Very helpful. 😆

Thankfully, Liam stepped up and immediately ruined Vegas’ homecoming, beating his former teammate 3–2. 🎯

Then came Belly, who also ground out a 3–2 victory.

At this point South Bradford were probably starting to wonder why they’d bothered turning up.

Then came the match of the night…

🔥 KYLE VS JACK 🔥

Both lads were absolutely chucking.

The first nine darts were flying in like they’d been practising instead of pretending to work all week — averages well over 70 and probably nudging 90+.

Proper darts.

Unfortunately, Kyle narrowly went down 3–2, but fair play — that was one hell of a game.

Next up was new A Team signing Dan, who showed absolutely no fear on his debut and more than held his own before narrowly losing 3–2 to Robbie.

So after the singles…

3–2 SOUTH BRADFORD.

Time for the doubles.

🎯 DAN & KYLE 🎯

New boy Dan and Kyle stepped up and delivered a 3–2 win, bringing the score to…

3–3.

One game left.

Winner takes all.

And this is where things got slightly… interesting. 😂

Nick & Belly were waiting to find out who South Bradford were putting up.

South Bradford, meanwhile, apparently hadn’t anticipated the possibility that they might need to select two players for the final doubles game.

Cue a full-blown internal summit. 🤣

Arguments.

Discussions.

Different opinions.

People looking at each other like they’d just been asked to explain the offside rule.

Eventually, after what appeared to be a United Nations peacekeeping mission, they finally decided on Jack & Lewis.

Unfortunately for them…

Nick & Belly had already made their decision.

🎯 THROW DARTS. WIN GAME. GO HOME.

And that’s exactly what happened.

Another 3–2.

Another Bierley win.

🏆 EAST BIERLEY A TEAM 4–3 SOUTH BRADFORD GOLF CLUB 🏆

So there we have it.

Last season’s 2nd-placed team come to East Bierley.

They bring Vegas back for reinforcements.

They win the first two singles.

They then have an argument over who should play the final doubles…

…and still go home losing 4–3. 😂😂😂

Special mention to Kyle & Dan for the doubles win, Liam for ruining Vegas’ homecoming, and Nick & Belly for keeping their heads when it mattered.

And Nick…

0–3 in the singles but 3–2 in the final doubles.

🎯 ONE GAME. ONE WIN. ONE HELL OF A START.

UP THE BIERLEY! 💙🎯

Today we said goodbye to our overseas Asad Raza Raza

It’s been quite an incredible year for the man in his first season on English soil. He is comfortably the leagues leading wicket taker with 68 wicket. Best bowling figures of 7/16 and in all competitions has taken 78 wickets.

A top man who off the pitch too who helped with coaching our all stars and ladies team.

Thank you Asad. You’ll be missed.

Good luck in your camps back in Pakistan!

Match Reports

1st XI v Yeadon
The 1st team suffered defeat against promotion chasing Yeadon. Yeadon were bowled out for just 122, as the outstanding Asad Raza took 6-42 to take his league wicket tally to 67 and 77 in all competitions. A phenomenal season.

Ben Heritage made 38 and Mahleb Mahmood 21, but regular wickets fell throughout the innings as we were dismissed for 111.

The defeat sees us 24 points from safety with three games to play.

Player of the match - Asad Raza Raza

2nd XI v Yeadon
The 2nd team were involved in yet another nail biter at south view road as we defeated Yeadon by two wickets with just five balls remaining.

Steven Nicklin took 4-61 and Tom Hoyle 3-26 from 12 overs kept Yeadon in tact as they were bowled out for 183.

The reply never got going and we found ourselves in trouble at 91-7. But 16 year old Alexander Rushworth on loan from Woodlands and 17 year George Bedford-Walker produced the decisive partnership to lead us to victory. The 81 run partnership was expertly timed with Alex scoring 28 and George's unbeaten 48 from 48 balls secured victory in 49.1 overs.
