This fantastic photo of Carriage Drive at Littlemoor was forwarded to us recently. We understand that these gas lanterns ran from Park Lane all the way to the castle.

Next time you are in Littlemoor Nature Reserve see if you can see any of the stone footings for the lanterns. Feel free to share photographs of any you find.

What should you do if you find an old, tired bumblebee? 🐝💤

📅 We’re nearing the end of the bumblebee active period – this male Red-tailed bumblebee is looking a bit tired and worn.

⚰️ The torn wings, faded colours and missing hair are all signs that this old timer is approaching the end of his natural lifespan.

Here’s how you can help:
🚫 If an old, tired bumblebee is resting in a place where they won’t get squashed, just leave them bee. Let nature gently take its course. There’s no need to take any action.
🌻 If they are resting somewhere they might get squashed, you can offer something, like a piece of kitchen paper, for the bumblebee to climb onto. Carefully carry it to a flower and let it crawl off to enjoy the last few sips of nectar peacefully.

This was collected during the volunteer session last week just at the Round Garden!

We love that you are using the area to socialise but please take your rubbish home with you. It is unsightly and also dangerous to wildlife and other users of the nature reserve.

This week was our last evening volunteer session so from October you can join us in the afternoon.

Here are the before and after photos. It is amazing what can get done in an hour. In addition to gardening we also had volunteers out litter picking.

I just love the sound of the wind in the trees.

Can you spare an hour today to help our volunteers? It's our last evening session because it's difficult once the darker nights arrive and safety is a priority.

Meet at Park Lane entrance of Littlemoor at 6pm. Look out for our volunteers wearing green. We would love to see you there.

Tasks include:
* litter picking
* round garden weeding
* compost bin empty
* balsam bashing

Morning everyone, the next volunteer session is Wednesday 2nd September at 6 pm.

This will be the last evening session until next year. We will revert to 1pm meeting time from October onwards.

For this session the main focus will be weeding the last two sections of the round garden. If you could bring forks, large or hand size that would be helpful. Other tasks are litterpicking and cutting back the brambles from nature trail and paths. Secateurs, shears or hedge trimmers would help.

There is always balsam but that is going to be tough.

If you can make it, please meet at Park Lane entrance at 6 pm.
