Walcats Girls Rugby Open Day Inspires the Next Generation
The Walcats Girls Rugby teams welcomed a fantastic turnout for their Open Day at Bradford on Avon RFC on Saturday 19 July, with players enjoying an unforgettable experience alongside a special international guest.
Representing girls from Bradford on Avon, Bath, Frome and the surrounding area, the Walcats provide rugby opportunities for players from Under-12s through to Under-18s, with a newly formed women's team also preparing for its first season. With the new campaign fast approaching, the Open Day gave both new and returning players the chance to experience everything the club has to offer in a fun, welcoming environment.
The event attracted plenty of new faces, alongside familiar ones returning for another season. It also marked an exciting milestone for last season's Under-11 girls, who have now made the transition from mixed rugby into girls-only rugby and had the opportunity to meet their new teammates.
Adding to the excitement was special guest Holly Bagnowiec, an England Under-18 international who currently plays at Hartpury College. Holly shared her experiences, helped coach players across the age groups and inspired the next generation of female rugby players.
We caught up with Under-14 player Bea after the Open Day, who said:
"It was truly inspiring to have an England player there with us. And because she's not that much older than us, it made me really believe some of us can get to her level. Holly was really friendly and great to talk to. I hope to see her playing in the Premiership soon."
The Walcats continue to provide a welcoming environment where girls of all abilities can develop their rugby, make new friends and enjoy being part of a growing rugby community.
With the new season on the horizon, the club is welcoming new players across all age groups. Anyone interested in joining the Walcats Girls teams (Under-12s to Under-18s) or the newly formed women's team is encouraged to get in touch for more information.
