They personalised their own combinations and made a brilliant job of explaining their decisions.

Learning a new skill or technique.....

Anyone can do it.
Do it for enough years and you'll get good.
Do it for a few more years and you'll earn a belt.
Do that skill during sparring or when it's really needed in self defence, then you really understand why you practiced it so many times.

Young minds are amazing.

They absorb so much.
Everything is new.
Most things are exciting.

But sometimes they need to stop, look, listen, feel, think and understand the task.

Trying to make sure they learn the correct technique is a challenge and priority.

If I do my job well the science says the skill will be learnt in a few as 70 ish reps. Unfortunately, if the student misinterprets me and incorrectly learns the skill it may take several thousand repetitions of correction to overwrite their annoying poor posture, punch or throw.

Lets take our time and do it right the first time hey 😆

Giving feedback is essential!

By the end of the lesson on Tuesday my young friend had a fantastic block for my round kick. She was keeping her hands up and smiling.

After a few weeks of attending the classes she's really learnt alot. More importantly she comes back each week with a smile.

I must be doing something right.

Please do share if you know me.

I have two very energetic young children. I work 7 days a week and often advertising gets neglected if I'm busy with either the children or work.

When I am teaching I am so focused I often forget to organise pictures to help with promoting the club.

I am part of a very reputable group Combat Academy UK providing high standards of tuition and value for money for the local community. I have over 20 years of training under my belt and competition experience. More importantly I have worked with children in a learning setting (including SEN children) for just as long.

If your child is thinking of trying a martial art, come along, meet me, and I hope I can help them learn to love the martial arts as I do.
