Rite time for another race report !
Friday half day test for me just to get an eye in, all went well with in a second of my pb.
Saturday morning oldskl 1k Qually, freezing cold, no track temp and feeling tense ... found 1 clear lap good enough for P1 in class and p5 overall, my championship rival down in 17th.
Saturdays race was red flagged due to an accident and moved to sunday.
Saturday evening saw the 750km endurance race with our team SHARPY 617 DAMBUSTERS Racing
Absolutely sterling effort from the guys running solid times finishing 18th overall and 5th in class
Sunday - busy busy day, 4 races and Mil qually.
Mil qually 9.15am , p3 on the grid felt half decent for first thing.
Race 1, again .... got away from the line pretty well p3 into turn one, pretty chill race, made a couple of mistakes just from riding tense but I was just trying to ride to the pit board, great appreciation to Alan Sharp for doing a great job.
Finished p5 overall and p1 in class 3 seconds ahead of my rival.
Race 2
My rival set a faster lap in the previous race so started two grid slots ahead, both got away well but he was 5 bikes ahead so it was head down to catch him, 2 laps later I was rite behind, I decided to follow for two laps to figure out his strengths and weaknesses.
I decided to make the pass and pulled a 3 second gap, however either I chilled out abit to much or he found some rocket fuel as he managed to close the gap and pass me at the old hairpin with a lap and half to go .... crap .... time to dig in ! I passed him back knowing I was strong into foggy esses.
Final lap time, let's have it head down and focus, set a new PB on the final lap and managed to pull a 1 second gap taking win number 2 !
Mil race time !
Starting p3 I got a good inital launch thought I would get the hole shot but hit a neutral from 1st to 2nd gear dropping me to around 7th ....
Again no panic, focus and dig in, picking off 3 riders in 2 laps with a 3 second gap up to 3rd.
Another 2 laps it was time to make the pass on the brakes into Melbourne loop, job done built a 4 second gap to ultimately finish 3rd and top RAF rider.
It was a great showing from the whole RAF team filling 8 of the top 12 spots !
Race 3 Final race of the day thank god ...
Sore, achey and running on Harribo let's have it !
Not a bad start again but so did my main rival, no stress felt confident i could pass him and I did 2 laps in ! Actually feeling good minus abit of arm pump the winter training paid off as I pulled a 10 second gap over my rival who fatigued drastically for another Class win and 5th overall.
Had to work for it this weekend but it was great fun ! 3 class wins and a 3rd in the Interservice race.
Couldn't do it without all the support and help from friends, family and the team !
Big shoutouts to Andrew Buchanan for helping manage some ongoing brake issues aswell as previously mentioned Sharpy for running the pit board perfectly.
