Boxing statues for the youngest ones tonight 🎅🗽🥊

Today was the last morning of boxing sessions at Avonbourne Academy before the Christmas break. Over the course of this academic year I’ve worked with groups of boys and girls through years 7,8,9,10 and 11 as intervention, with the hope of giving the students a more positive outlook on the school life and improving behaviour. It’s been great to work with all the pupils, introduce them to the sport of boxing and chat about difficulties and challenges they’re experiencing to try and give them something to look forward to each week, with a number of students signing up to membership . Well done everyone have a great Christmas.

3 sessions done this morning back at Avonbourne academy for weekly boxing intervention sessions. Great to meet and work with Year 10 boys, Year 9 girls and Year 9 boys and looking forward to the progress in the coming weeks 🥊📚

I began teaching Rowan when he was a timid 4 year old and unsurprisingly completely new to boxing. Tuesday just gone he had his first bout, boxing brilliantly (aged 10 years and 1 month making him our youngest ever boxer), in an unfamiliar venue in Southampton against an unfamiliar boxer. Over the years Rowan has physically developed and his boxing has progressed impressively. However, Rowan’s attitude has remained the same. Whether it was his first time in a boxing gym aged 4, or a session on an any random night 6 years later, Rowan has the exact same desires. This is to improve as much as he can by listening to his coach as much as he can. Working with children like Rowan is a pleasure no matter their ability and I’m incredibly proud of the progress he has made along with many of our young boxers. The relationship built throughout these years is something I’m also proud of and the once timid 4 year old is now a big part of our gym not only due to being our youngest ever amateur boxer but also because of the relationships he has built with his team mates and coaches. Personally I believe, without taking anything away from the hard work of Rowan and his parents, that working towards achievements in his sport has had a positive effect on how Rowan perceives challenges and interacts with others, and he is a prime example of how boxing can help a young person flourish.

Another fun session with the Strictly Vitality fitness group for adults with learning difficulties. Always a pleasure to spend some time with the guys and girls and try to put some smiles on faces. 🥊🥊

7 year old Roselia in her first full spar. So much natural talent and athleticism mixed with a love for the sport and constant effort - a mixture which makes me very excited for her future.
Also great control shown from 9 year old Rowan. To have such an understanding of how to be a helpful sparring partner at such a young age is very impressive.
