The University of Warwick Golf Club offers fantastic golfing opportunities for men and women of all levels, as well as some of the best social events on campus! It would have been seen as almost impossible to better our 2015/16 season where both teams went unbeaten in their league campaigns, and eac
h finishing as champions in their respective leagues! This success was recognised as the club was awarded with the prestigious Cecil Angel Award, given to the Warwick's best performing team of the year! This year proved a much tougher challenge facing opponents such as Birmingham and Loughborough; universities recognised for their golf scholarship programs. Having said this, both teams fought well all year round and very much look forward to competing in their respective leagues in the upcoming season. If you would like to play golf competitively in 2017/18, we welcome you to trial out for the squad. Trials will be held in the first two weeks of term - look out for more details at Sports Fair on October 4th. The squad play and practice at Coventry Golf and Country Club which boasts fantastic facilities and satisfies the needs of both the squad and social members. The squad will be limited to 20 players, and as an indication of the standard, the current squad's handicaps range from +2 to 9. The First and Second teams will compete in approximately 12-15 matches each over the year (held on Wednesday afternoons), with practice sessions being held twice a week. Those who successfully make it through trials will be invited to join the squad and take up membership at Coventry Golf for a discounted price. We would also like to illustrate that Warwick Golf is very much a mixed society and are looking for more females to join the club. In light of this and following on from last year, we are looking to offer free female-only coaching sessions for 2017/18. For the more casual golfers who wish to have fun continuing their golf during the next year at Warwick, we are offering Social Golf membership at Coventry also. The club is ideally placed at approximately 10 minutes from campus, and offers a true test of golf whilst also facilitating for those with limited golfing experience. The Social Golf membership is a great way of meeting others of a similar standard and allows students to book a number of tee times each week from October to June. Alongside all this golf to enjoy throughout the academic year, we have some fantastic socials to get involved with! The Squad and Social Golf come together for regular club meals in Leamington Spa, off-campus activities, as well as Wednesday’s POP!. We also have an annual golf tour which takes place over summer and is a great way to say goodbye to the individuals leaving us that year. Tour is always the highlight of the year (check out our Instagram!), and previous destinations have included Bournemouth, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Ireland, and Magaluf! If you would like to get involved in golf this year at Warwick, be sure to come along to Sports Fair on October 4th in the Sports Centre. You will also find us at Sports Day on the 14th (piazza), where the squad will be joined by Coventry’s head professional Martin Sutliff. On the day we will be equipped with a full size golf net and simulator to allow you to show us your skills – no pressure!
