This is the Bournemouth branch of KDF International. Our aim is to promote the study, development and practice of the martial arts tradition of medieval and renaissance Germany, in particular those of the Master; Johannes Liechtenauer. Our focus is the work of 16th Century German fencing master Joachim Meyer. Currently we are focussing on the longsword and dussack. Meyer's work includes other weap
ons such as the dagger, rapier, staff & halberd which we plan to incoporate over time. First session is free and the club has some spare gear to lend out until you can get your own stuff to train with. Training is a mix of solo drills and partner drills, free fencing, light and very intentioned. This isn't re-enacting, although there are re-enactors who are members, this is a modern martial art. It's easy to start with no skill, but experience in martial arts is an obvious bonus. The group aims to be as inclusive as possible, but due to our insurance we can only train over 18's. Anyone who engages in discriminatory or harassing behaviour will be removed from class and may also lose future training privileges; this includes — but is not limited to — discrimination based on race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic or religious background, and ability, as well as verbal, physical, and sexual harassment. KDF Bournemouth is a safe and welcoming space for everyone, and all of our staff and students are expected to abide by the above rules. If you see something that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, or have any questions about our policies, please speak to your Chapter Master. The group is run as a non profit organisation & the first session is free, after that fees are £7 per session, or £20 if you pay for the full month in advance. This is to cover the cost of hiring the hall. Any funds left over are used to buy more kit for new members to use. If you are interested come along to one of our sessions and see what we do. T-shirt & tracksuit bottoms are ideal, if you have a pair of leather gloves bring them along too. If there are any questions please ask on the page or send us a private message.
