Last weekend saw the launch of Wessex Volleyballs 50th anniversary celebrations. On Saturday morning Club founder Geoff Allen ran a volleyball taster session for a large group of youngsters that they loved so much, we anticipate seeing many of them joining our junior ranks in the near future.
In the evening, players, coaches, volunteers and friends of the Club across the 50 years enjoyed catching up at the Hamworthy Club and reminiscing with old and new friends. Wayne Tinsley-Veale gave a speech recognising Wessex’s longevity and highlighting the positive impacts of the Club, Geoff and Lynn Allen on so many of us across so many years. He also read out much appreciated tributes from Volleyball England and the South West Volleyball Association. Geoff provided an impactful overview of our history and the many achievements of our teams regionally and nationally, as well as individuals including Olympians, Commonwealth Games athletes, national team players and professionals. A great evening was had by all and we’re looking forward to our next event later this month, which will be a tournament for our younger players.

Representing the South West at the Inter-regionals in Loughborough this weekend are Wessex players Jake, Ed, Jaden, Dylan (u15) Felix, Calum and Tali (u17) and Scarlett, Izzy, Daniela, Zahra and Isabella (u17) with coach Helen. One more day of competition for the boys today - they’re smashing it! 💥

It was BRONZE for our u16 boys at Loughborough today, narrowly missing out on a golden ticket to the finals with a 15-13 loss in the 3rd set decider against Leeds in a closely fought semi-final.
Coach Lynn Allen; Fantastic performance from the boys, fantastic support as always. Everyone should be proud 😊

Wessex U18 and M1 player Felix Summers and U16 Tali Rees-Tomkins head off to Pordenone in Italy to represent England at the Nations Winter Cup. First matches tomorrow Saturday 21st Feb for their group C selection against Japan, Italy and Czechia.

A HUGE congratulations to Lynn Allen and the Under 16 boys who have worked incredibly hard to reach the top 6 in Englad and will play at Loughborough University next month in the Super Sixes. We wish them the best of luck 💥 🙌🏼
