On Sunday, we came together for our first-ever Women & Girls in Sport Day - and what a day it was 💙
First, another big congrats to our MVPs and Future Leader Award winners - recognised not just for their volleyball, but for leading with kindness, patience, integrity, and more. These are the traits that carry us far in life - and exactly what makes Wessex a place our junior girls can grow into strong women
And as we keep celebrating 50 years of Wessex, this event also featured a display that showcased decades of kit, medals, trophies, international accomplishments, and memories - including some seriously impressive England and Team GB moments. It was so special to look back on these memories surrounded by the next generation of players who are just getting started✨
Some context... This event was born from a simple observation: participation and leadership in volleyball don’t always move together. The inaugural Wessex Women & Girls in Sport Day was designed as a local, hands-on response to that gap: more girls seeing more women lead, coach, and compete, in their own club.
None of this happens without our incredible board and volunteers, who gave their time to make the day run without a hitch - thank you doesn’t quite cover it! And special thanks to our W1 players and coaches, who led, organised, and ran this from the ground up: you didn’t just put on an empowering event that brought the women and girls of Wessex closer together - you built something the whole club will remember!
Requests for another one started rolling in before we’d even packed up the net - so consider this just the beginning!
