Hi Chris, this is my report for today in the Oxshott Open Doubles (Played with Peter Hey from Oxshott). Started off really strong in the morning, winning 13-2 in the first game against Trudy and Tina from Portchester, losing 2nd game 10-7 against Alan F and David L from Oxshott, then winning 13-5 in the 3rd against Wallis and Pascale. So into the gold. Our first match of the knockout was a rematch against Alan and David, this time prevailing 13-5. Next up we were playing, Allan and Carol Paice (eventual gold winners), but this time we lost 13-8 with some great boules being played by them. But to determine who came 3rd and 4th, we played Etsil and Paul Myers, of which we stormed to victory 13-2, so overall Gold 3rd place. We both played extremely well and overall a very enjoyable day.
Peter Hey was one of the Andrew Lloyd group and will be well known to Jennie, Sue and others, nice chap, decent player.
Thomas is one of our members, is now a Espoir but still trains with the juniors and sometimes joins in with our Monday evening session.

So the IR weekend is over and our Southern first team narrowly missed out on glory. Aimee, Matthew and Alex went down 13-11 to the eventual winners Heart of England but it was not only that that cost them the title. Heart had already lost to Chiltern 7-13 (Southern had beaten them 13-5), but in the course of the competition they played five matches and only conceded one point. The final reckoning saw both teams on 10 wins; Southern with 141 for, 59 against and a difference of 82; Heart had 10 wins, 137 for, 48 against, points difference 89 - seven in front of of Southern, So Close.
The second team of Lewis, Charlie, Zac and Oscar took fifth place with seven win nd some worthy scalps on the way, a good result and the third team, Eleanor, Amy, JJ, and Sasha played well but the results did not reflect their efforts. In particular in the first match of the weekend they went down 10-13 to Heart of England having been within a whisker of winning it!
Thanks to the team managers Andy Barron, Steve Read and Claire Rickman for their support of the young players, and to the parents and friends that got them to WSM and sorted them out off the terrain.
Muscliff can be proud, six of the team are from our Club and you will see some of them on the terrain this evening training for the next challenge.
In the senior event Southern were 4th on 52 wins; Wales third with 53; Kent second with 54. Chiltern won comfortably with 75.

This is the weekend of the Inter-Regional championships being held this year at Weston Super Mare. The event has teams from most of the English Regions plus from Wales and Scotland. It will involve all the top players in England.
We are especially interested in the Junior event as the Southern kids were runners up last year and winners the year before, and of course because our Club is providing six of the juniors playing for the region.
There are 12 teams in the Junior Championships. The format is that over the weekend each team will play all the others. Today each team has played six matches. A team consists of one triple. Southern has entered three: Southern 1 - Aimee, Alex and Matthew - all Muscliff; Southern 2 - Lewis, Charlie, Zac and Oscar (Lewis and Charlie are Muscliffites) and Southern 3 - Eleanor, Amy, JJ and Sasha - Eleanor is one of ours.
Below are the standings after day one. You will see that Heart of England 1 lead on points difference from Southern 1; Southern 2 are fourth and the Southern 3rd team are bottom. Heart of England are the defending champions.
All to play for tomorrow. At some point the top two teams will play each other, that match is likely to decide the Championship.
Other Muscliffites playing in the adult event are Stuart Brown, and Mark Rattue. Southern’s team are currently third in the Senior Championship.
Good luck tomorrow.

Two of our Juniors had a busy weekend.
Matthew and Aimee started on Friday at the Battle Abbey Doubles. Matthew got to the Gold with George but then exited; not sure about Aimee but will update when information available.
Then off to Kent for their Big Bang Weekend; It was a similar situation for Matthew with George. Made it to the Gold but there it finished.
Sunday saw the Kent Triples. Aimee joined members of the PE Junior Squad, they found themselves in the Silver and battled through to the final where they went down to a hugely experienced three from London and Brighton.
Matthew teamed up with Jayden and George, all in the PE Junior Squad. They won two matches in the morning and then fell to the eventual winners and England Internationals Jason White, Kai Sheffield and Rolly. That took them into the Gold where in their first match they faced Steve Daykin, David Plumhoff and Matt amongst the favourites for the title.
It looked like the tie would go with form and reputation as the seniors swept to a 12-0 lead but then relaxed. The boys came back taking single points from the next four ends, this lifted their confidence and they played superbly coming back to 11-12 and then taking the two points required to win.
Moral of the story, The game is not over ‘till you score 13 - and - never give up, whatever the score you can recover.
Next round the lads faced another top player in Ameen Miah and his team, they continued their good form to win it to seven.
In the final, again they faced the International combo of Jason, Kai and Rolly, the result was as in the morning session the Internationals stormed to victory leaving the boys with the runners up prize.
So, Aimee runner up in the Silver and Matthew in the Gold, this in a top competition attracting the best players in the land. A great result from two fantastic young players.
