We often talk about the players on the green… but what about the MARKER? 👀

In a singles game, the marker has far more responsibility than simply standing at the head and answering “Am I holding shot?” 😄

📖 LAW 42 – THE MARKER’S DUTIES

In the absence of an umpire, the marker has important responsibilities in making sure the game is played in accordance with the Laws of the Sport of Bowls.

And some of those duties begin before the first bowl is even delivered! 😲

The marker must ensure that:
✅ Play is carried out according to the Laws.
✅ Bowls have a clearly visible, valid World Bowls Stamp.
✅ The rink is the correct width.
✅ The required markers on the side banks are positioned at the correct distances.

How many of you knew that checking the rink width and side-bank marker distances could form part of the marker’s duties? 🤔

A great Presidents Day. The weather was kind, the sun came out, members, families, friends and sponsors got together. We had fun with 3 games of yardstick plus some target games for the kids. A lovely spread of food, a raffle and of course the bar was open!!

A grey day but such a fun afternoon hosting The Cotswold Strollers on their Bournemouth Tour. They are a group of players from clubs within the Cotswolds who get together for a few summer games and a yearly September tour. 5 full rinks, lots of fun & bowling and then post match drinks

A sport you can start as a youngster and continue into older age. There is a place on our green for all ages and abilities

A sport-loving teenager who turned to bowls after being diagnosed with a joint condition, wants to see more young people take up the game.

Thomas, from Bedfordshire, was diagnosed with Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) in 2023 after feeling his arm "pop" during a swimming competition.

He tried to carry on swimming and playing football, but things became "increasingly difficult" for him, so he took up bowls after attending an open-day at Leighton Buzzard Bowling Club.
