The recent hot weather has brought a tragic reminder of why water safety education is so important.

By 1st June there was reported at least 15 water related deaths linked to the hot weather period, with many of the victims being children and teenagers.

As we in Drowning Prevention Week 2026 RLSS UK is reminding everyone that drowning is preventable. Over the last five years, 3,615 people have tragically drowned across the UK and Ireland, and drowning deaths among 13–17-year-olds have increased by 67% in recent years.

Swimming lessons are about so much more than learning strokes. They help children develop confidence in the water, understand risks, and learn essential lifesaving skills that could one day save their own life or someone else's.

At our swim school, we proudly support Drowning Prevention Week and the vital work of RLSS UK in teaching children how to stay safe in and around water.

Drowning Prevention Week is in full swing!

Our swimmers have been getting involved both in and out of the water with word searches, spot-the-difference challenges, RLSS riddles and matching activities displayed poolside to help reinforce vital water safety messages.

🏊 Learning to swim is a life skill, and water safety education is just as important. Throughout lessons we're encouraging children to understand the RLSS Water Safety Code:

Did you know?
💙 Drowning is preventable.
💙 Drowning is often silent and can happen in seconds.
💙 Knowing how to swim and understanding water safety can save lives.
💙 Even strong swimmers should always respect water and never swim alone.

We're proud to support RLSS UK Drowning Prevention Week and help our swimmers build confidence, knowledge and skills to enjoy water safely for life.
