🤔Fault - Customer states fuel leaking from carbs onto the engine and also fuel in the engine mixing with oil. Also bike runs rough on idle and through the power range. (Shes not healthy)
🧐Diagnosis - Removal of tank and apply Auxiliary fuel tank. Drain oil to remove 5Litres extra of fuel and oil mix!!! 8 litres in total! Refil with new. Run up bike to test for operation to find very rich running due to overfueling and would only Run with large amounts of throttle application. Remove carbs and check for all 4 cylinders firing by applying brake cleaner to each inlet manifold individually- all good.
(We are only repairing the carbs in this post. Other work is being carried out to brakes, suspension and fuel tank)
🔧Repair - After removal of the dirty carbs a full strip down to the bare components and individual carb banks, ultrasonic cleaning was carried out @ 80° in 30 minutes intervals, over a period of 4 hrs (alot longer then we would usually clean for- but they really needed it). The ultrasonic cleaner is a great piece of kit however can be detrimental to cleaning - why? Because the cleaning solution is mainly water. Water = damage to carbs and poor running. So we thoroughly clean using hot water baths, pressured air, aerosol cleaners, pipe brushes, ect. We then use quality rebuild kits (the best aftermarket options we have) and begin rebuilding the carbs back up to like new condition. Setting up components such as float heights, mixture air screws, ect. A final fluid test over 1 hrs (hooking up an Auxiliary fuel tank and ensuring no leaks). ✅️
And the process once we get the carbs off to rebuild and ready to refit can take up to 6 hrs! (excluding the ultrasonic cleaner).
Care and professionalism with Carburettor work takes vital time.
