Boston United U14 Ambers – Match Report

Our U14 Ambers made the journey to Wisbech St Mary’s for their first fixture of the season and their first game together under their new management team.

The Ambers made an excellent start, showing great energy, teamwork and a willingness to move the ball quickly. Their passing and movement created a number of early opportunities, and it wasn’t long before their hard work was rewarded.

A superb through ball from Alfie found Carson, who finished well to put the Ambers 1–0 ahead.

The Ambers continued to press as a team and worked hard defensively, with every player contributing both on and off the ball. Their positive approach was rewarded again as Carson and Oscar added another three goals between them to put the Ambers firmly in control.

Wisbech St Mary’s responded strongly and managed to find the back of the net twice before the break, setting up an exciting second half.

After the restart, Wisbech came out with renewed intensity and scored an early goal to reduce the deficit. The Ambers responded well, with Jayden getting himself on the scoresheet to restore their advantage.

Unfortunately, the second half proved difficult for the Ambers as Wisbech continued to apply pressure. Despite Tobias making a great penalty save and the players battling hard with some decisions going against them, Wisbech managed to turn the game around and eventually secured a 6–5 victory.

Although the result wasn’t what the Ambers wanted, there were so many positives to take from the performance. The team showed great character, determination and togetherness, particularly in their first competitive fixture under their new managers.

Every player should be extremely proud of their efforts. There is plenty to build on, and the future looks very positive for this group.

Well done, U14 Ambers!

The team were all incredible and eager to get the season off to a positive start. The team performance was so great, with goals shared across the players that they all equally shared the POTM award. ⚽ UNDER 11 AMBER - FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON ⚽
Our U11 Ambers were back in action on Saturday, playing their first game of the season at home against NXT Gen FC.

With NXT Gen being a new team to the league, the team didn’t know quite what to expect — but from the very first whistle, they were absolutely brilliant. They came flying out of the blocks, getting on the front foot and taking the game to the opposition from the start.

There were some fantastic passages of football on display, with the team showing real confidence in possession. One of the biggest positives was the way they kept their shape and held their positions, giving the player on the ball plenty of options and making it difficult for the opposition to press us. The passing and movement was another huge positive. We moved the ball quickly, created space with our movement and played through the thirds with real purpose. Some of the patterns of play were excellent — working the ball from the back, into midfield, down the channels and into the strikers. And importantly, the movement off the ball was just as good as what we were doing with it. Players were making runs to create space for teammates, offering passing options and recognising when to move into the space that had been created. The chances followed, with the Pilgrims creating double figures in the first half alone, which was a fantastic sign of the attacking football we were producing.

There were periods where the team had to dig deep, show character and work hard for each other. The attitude to keep going, keep pressing and continue pushing the opposition towards their own goal was excellent. The Ambers continued to create and convert opportunities and, even when things didn't quite go our way, they stayed positive and stuck to the way we want to play.

🏆 Opposition Manager's POTM – Harry
Harry's quick feet caused the opposition plenty of problems, with their manager saying:
“Within the first five minutes we knew our defence was in trouble with his quick feet.”
A fantastic recognition of Harry's performance and the problems he created throughout the game.

🏆 Manager's POTM – Austin
Austin not only got himself on the scoresheet, but his movement throughout the game was outstanding. He continually looked to find space, pulled defenders into areas they didn't want to be and then exploited the space that was left behind. He did this on numerous occasions and was a constant threat to the opposition.

A special mention to Ralph who also had an outstanding game, created a lot chances, started a lot of the moves off and was very unlucky not to get a goal for his effort. Played with a smile on his face and communicated really well with his team-mates throughout the game.

A fantastic first game of the season from the team. Plenty to work on, as always, but the passing, movement, attacking intent and attitude shown gives us plenty to be excited about.

A great start — now we build on it!👊🏼⚽️🧡🖤

We would also like to say a big thank you to JDM Food Group who have sponsored the team for the next two seasons.

Our brand new Under 7 Ambers team played Crowland Juniors at the weekend. All the players put so much effort, and even though we had less players we were evenly matched and scored some amazing goals. They showerd great teamwork and are learning to pass more. Well done!

Despite the result, it was a very positive start to the season for the U13 Ambers against a very big, strong, physical Whittlesy side. With six debutants, we took control of the game early, passed the ball superbly and caused all sorts of problems in the opponent's box. We deservedly took the lead through Lorenzo after seven minutes and doubled the lead five minutes later with Lorenzo's second. Whittlesy pulled on back straight away but Ivan then scored to restore the two goal lead. Unfortunately the second half didn't continue like the first and Whittlesy scored four goals without reply as tiredness set in with only had one substitute.

All in all, a very positive start and lots of good football on show.

A very promising performance to kick-start our U13 Blacks season! The team had a bright start with some positive passing and attacking phases, and despite going 1-0 down early on Max responded with a calm finish before Dexter struck from outside the box to give us a 2-1 lead at half time.

Unfortunately we couldn’t hold the lead conceding two early on in the second half, but cannot fault the effort and work rate of the players especially only having eight players available.

Well done on a superb first game back and we move into the next one!

Our U14 Girls played their first game of this season away vs Retford. Unfortunately the team are down a goalkeeper, so the girls had to rotate in goal throughout the game. The team had a great attitude and spirits, especially in the second half when the girls battled until the last whistle, despite the result. Well done girls, very proud!

What a fantastic way for our U9 Ambers to begin their new season, as they hosted Holbeach Blacks at the Jakeman’s Community Stadium.

The team arrived full of excitement and were ready to get going, starting the game with fantastic energy, determination and enthusiasm. From the first whistle, the Ambers played some excellent football, showing great teamwork and creating plenty of attacking opportunities. There was some really good passing, movement and attacking play throughout the game, with the boys always looking to move the ball forward and create chances.

One of the most pleasing aspects of the performance was the work rate and attitude when defending. The Pilgrims have worked hard on this in training over the last couple of weeks, particularly getting to the ball quickly, working together to win possession back and being positive when defending. The players put all of that into practice brilliantly 👏

Every single player played fantastically well, worked incredibly hard for the team and contributed to what was a really enjoyable performance; showing great togetherness and playing some fantastic football from start to finish.

POTM was Arlie 🏆 who was outstanding in defence, showing great confidence when bringing the ball out from the back and consistently looking to find a teammate with a pass to help start our attacks.

A huge well done — a brilliant team performance and a fantastic start to the new season! 🟠⚫️

👏 Credit also to Holbeach Blacks for their excellent attitude, effort and sportsmanship throughout the game. It was a great contest played in a fantastic spirit.

Our U13 girls started their season with an away game against Rospley, led out by this week's captain Nell.

The girls started really strong with some great football on show and taking on board what they had been doing in training, which showed on the field.

Always playing with a smile on their faces, the came away with a 2-0 win, with goals from Jess and Darcy.

🏆 Parents' POTM was split this week with Millie and Maisie - Millie for great saves and distribution from the back, and Maisie for her strong defensive work.
🏆 Managers' POTM went to the whole team.

Both managers Sam and Adam are super proud of how far the girls have come in the space of a year. They have never given up even when the scores have gone against them, well done.

A big thank you to Team Toneville who have sponsored the team for the next two seasons.
