All the very best to Tom, Amelia and George who are in South Africa for the world tug of war championships and will be taking part in under 23 and junior competitions this week, with the competitions running between Wednesday 16 and Saturday 19 September inclusive.

🏆 🌍 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 2026 WORLD OUTDOOR TUG OF WAR CHAMPIONSHIPS - OPEN COMPETITION PROGRAMME AND STREAMING INFO

The open club competition takes place on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 September.

Competitions in the morning start at 9am South Africa time (8am UK time). Afternoon competitions start at approx. 1pm South Africa time (12 noon UK time), subject to the completion of the morning programme.

We have a number of clubs taking part across these two days and you can see when each club is taking part in the graphic.

There is a stream available for each of the four corners of the arena, so you can choose which groups you wish to watch.

🏆 TWIF FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR NOMINEE 🏆

🇬🇧 Millie Tomlinson | England
💪 Club: Melton Mowbray Ladies

This girl is absolutely next level! 🔥

Millie Tomlinson has shown incredible commitment, determination, and progression throughout her tug-of-war career. Since beginning her international journey in 2022, she has continued to rise through the age groups and establish herself as a force in senior competition.

At the English Nationals, Millie pulled all four ladies’ weight classes AND the 4x4 — and incredibly, she never lost an end all day. She never looked jaded or tired and was ready to pull in whatever position her coach needed her in. 💪🔥

Her international record tells the story of an athlete who has continued to progress year after year:

🇬🇧 2022 – Junior
🥉 Junior Open Club Mixed 520kg
🥉 Closed Junior Women 480kg

🇬🇧 2023 – Under 23
🥈 U23 Open Club Mixed 560kg

🇬🇧 2024 – Senior
5th place with England in the Senior Women, helping qualify for the World Games.

🇨🇳 2025 – World Games, Chengdu
5th place with Great Britain in the Women’s 500kg.

But Millie’s contribution goes far beyond medals. ❤️

She never misses a training session, always gives everything she has, and is constantly helping teach and develop the less experienced girls on her team. She pulls wherever her team needs her and leads through her work ethic and example.

And when she isn’t training or competing? She’s helping run a busy dairy farm! 🐄💪

Millie represents everything that makes tug of war special — strength, commitment, teamwork, progression, selflessness, and an absolute love for the sport.

There truly is no doubt that Millie gives her all to tug of war, and she continues to inspire those around her every time she steps onto the rope.

Good luck to club member George who is off to compete in Switzerland this weekend at the annual GENSB junior tug of war tournament as part of a delegation of 35 junior pullers from across England.

GENSB is an annual junior tug of war club competition that is held to give juniors aged 12- 18 inclusive an opportunity to experience international competition with flexible rules that allow mixed gender teams to compete with between 7-10 pullers within a weight limit of 560kg, and if using female junior pullers in a team, each team gets a bonus allowance of 10kg per female up to a maximum weight limit of 600kg.

We are keen to get a junior team going next season, so if you want to give tug of war a go with us, then do not hesitate to get in touch!

After an incredible 24 years in tug of war, Will Lee has built an outstanding career representing both Lincoln and England at the highest level.

His journey is a fantastic example of progression through the sport — from junior level, to Under 23, and now to senior international success.

• U23 World Championship Bronze – 2006
• 🏆 5 European Championship medals, including 3 Open Golds
• 🏆 12 World Championship medals, including 5 Golds

🔥 An incredible recent run!

Will’s achievements at the 2025 World Championships in Nottingham and the World Games in Chengdu have further cemented his place among the sport’s elite.

If you are a youngster and want to give tug of war a go then please do not hesitate to drop us a message for more info. Training is on Tuesday and Thursday evening.
