Uppingham 150th Anniversary Church Service
St. Matthew's Church, Borth
June 7th at 11:15am
As members of Clwb Golff Borth & Ynyslas Golf Club, you will know that when Uppingham School relocated to Borth in 1876 because of a typhoid outbreak in the town, and the masters of the school established an informal golf links on the ground that is now Clwb Golff Borth & Ynyslas Golf Club.
Although their stay in Borth lasted only two years, the tradition they began never disappeared, and it is thanks to Uppingham School that we have had a golf course and club in Borth since 1885.
A special 150th Anniversary Service will be held at St Matthew’s Church, Borth, this Sunday, 7th June, to commemorate the arrival of the school in Borth and the warm welcome it received from the village and surrounding communities.
There is an open invitation to all members of Clwb Golff Borth & Ynyslas Golf Club to attend this special service at 11.15am, followed by refreshments at the Village Hall.
Uppingham School Golf Event - Saturday June 6th
To mark the occasion, Uppingham School is sending a delegation led by the Headmaster, Dr Richard Maloney, together with two masters and eight students.
Surprise, surprise — they are all golfers! The club has therefore arranged a golf competition for the students and staff of Uppingham School on Saturday, 6th June. The competition will be a Stableford competition played from the white tees.
Members of Clwb Golff Borth & Ynyslas Golf Club are also invited to participate so that the Uppingham players will have some one with local knowledge to guide them around the course. We are also delighted to be joined by four members of the Old Uppinghamians Golf Society (OUGS).
If you would like to take part in the competition, please contact the Captain, Harri Jones, at [email protected] or on 07977 992669.
Your presence at the church service would be greatly appreciated as we show our gratitude to Uppingham School for its important place in the history of our club and community.
