We were back on the pitch this morning, for our first game in the Divisional Cup, at home to Carbrain Football Club 2013 Clarets .
With a short notice move from Allandale to Stirling Road due to the constant rain, it was a relief to get a game on at all... Although the pitch still did make playing good football a bit of a challenge.
First half, Steins were the dominant team with most of the play being in the Carbrain final third. Not too many clear chances created though.
As the minutes ticked by in the 2nd half and we were still scoreless, the game got more and more scrappy and Carbrain started to threaten a bit more. We switched to a back 3 and looked to go for a winner. The closest either team came to scoring was from a free kick out on the right. Callum swung a great ball into the area and Louis' late run was timed well to the far post. The ball came at an awkward height though, and his finish came back off the post.
Penalties can be tricky on a soft, muddy surface but both teams stuck their first 3 away clinically, including a Panenka from Jack that the coaches never stressed about in the slightest 😳
Daniel was the hero of the day though. 2 excellent saves, one to his right and then the final one to his left at full stretch, gave us a bonus point 🫲⚽️🫱
Well done to Carbrain Football Club 2013 Clarets . Both teams happy to get their first Divisional Cup points on the board!
