We play golf as a group every other Sunday in the Manchester & Cheshire area, throughout the year with a variety of competitions. Howe Bridge is the home of the Oak Tree Root Golf Society and although the Oak Tree Root pub is now closed we have retained the name for the society. We hold our society meetings on the first Monday of every month at the Gardeners pub on Lovers Lane, Howe Bridge. Whilst
the society is very friendly it is competitive & we do play to the English Golf Union rules and Handicaps are decided by EGU rules
The society was formed in the summer of 1994 when a few games were organised to sort out the members handicaps. The 1st official game took place at Manor Golf Club on Sunday 23rd October of the 12 golfers who played that day 5 are still with the society today
We are now a society of over twenty golfers and we play golf as a group every other Sunday throughout the year. These Sunday games constitute the winter & summer leagues (2 divisions with promotion & relegation at the end of each season) which are played at various courses on a rota system including, Boysnope, Garstang, Malkins Bank, Altrincham, Hart Common and others all within an hour's travelling time.. The winter league runs from October to the end of March, with the summer league starting in April through till the end of September. There are also winter & summer matchplay competitions available for members to play in
During the Summer months we play 5 Major competitions, 1 each month (April-August) these are 27 hole Stableford competitions, usually played on a Friday. We end the Summer with our Captains Weekend in September, generally for three days which includes the 6th major The Captains Trophy, where we stay in decent hotels and play premier courses. Cost of our Captains weekend is usually about £300.00 per person
Guests are always welcome to play with the society, either for a Sunday game or for a major (see contact details below)
