When your friend's baby of the same age is already going underwater, it is easy to leave a lesson feeling your little one is falling behind. Here is something simple to try instead.
After each swim, jot down one thing your child did today that they couldn't do, or wouldn't do, last week. It might be kicking their legs during a song, reaching for the wall, splashing with both hands or happily watching the teacher with relaxed shoulders. Keep these notes on your phone and look back over them at the end of the term.
In my experience, parents are often surprised by how much has changed once they compare their child only with themselves. Every baby builds water confidence in their own order and at their own pace, and some weeks the growth is quiet. Your notes will show you the progress you might otherwise miss. Why not start after your next lesson and see what you notice?
