Good evening from Granite Valley Bowls. A quick catch up from our club. We would like to say a big well done to Luxulyan Feast Week Committee for another amazing Feast Week full of events, fun, and what a Carnival day to end the week. Also a big well done to Luxulyan Amateur Dramatic Society on their second show "Ladies Day" since reforming. Another successful show, and well attended too. Looking forward to your next panto. We also had to say a sad good bye to one of our most loved members Stan. He helped to set up and establish our club and was one of our league players. He has moved up country and we wish his wife Liz and himself all the best for the future. He has promised to visit us when they comeback to visit Cornwall.
Here at the club, summer is in full flow, so our numbers have been a little short, with a few of our bowlers in outdoor bowls competition. I know some have been doing well, but we can't wait to welcome them back at the end of their summer season. We have our new Intra-Club competition started and enjoying a good friendly bit of competition ourselves. We have also had our target mat out, giving us some drawing practice too. We have entered the forthcoming CCSMBA Winter League for 2026/27, which will be due to start around October. Hoping to improve on our first season last year where although we finished 5th from 7 teams, just 5 points separated 2nd to 5th! We have had two friendlies against our friends at Goonbarrow, and welcomed Ladock SMBC for a friendly too. We're looking forward to returning to both of theirs for the return legs.
Our sport has been short of numbers across the UK since Covid, as many groups and activities have been. However, if you fancy trying something new where you can partake in light exercise and enjoy a new hobby or sport. We offer a very friendly atmosphere to bowl in our local village hall here in Luxulyan. You don't need anything equipment to have a try, as we can provide bowls to start you off. All we ask is that you bring some flat shows that you can change into from your outdoor shoes as we play on special cloth mats. (even if you want to have a try in your socks, that would be fine). The first three sessions are free, and there's always time for a cuppa and biscuits by the end of the session. Why not come and have a go, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 2pm until 4pm.
