Dramatic finish at the PCG ends in defeat to Newquay Cricket Club 3s

On Saturday, a delayed start due to rain, Pencarrow were put into bat and a solid start saw them reach 131-1 with Simon Clay falling one short of his half century. With wickets falling around him, Jack Carter batted superbly scoring 77, helping the team to reach 171-8 in a rain reduced 36 overs. Ollie Allen, making his debut for Pencarrow, helped the team to make a great start with the ball taking 3 wickets in his first 5 overs.

Some great fielding including solid catching brought Pencarrow back into the match when Newquay threatened to run away with the match with their big hitting. The match went down to the wire with Newquay drawing level on 171-7 with one over to go. Newquay scored the winning run with just 3 balls to spare in one of the closest matches seen at Pencarrow in recent years.

Thank you to Nigel Parker for sponsoring player of the match for our remaining home games this season. This week Jack Carter added to his wine collection for the second week running (pictured) for his 77 runs and 2 wickets. In front of our Trusted Training sponsored scoreboard. The result leaves Pencarrow mid table.

Spirited defeat again strong top of the table side

Pencarrow hosted top of the table Buckland Monachorum at the PCG on Saturday as we looked to make it three wins on the spin.

Buckland won the toss and elected to field and it was the arrows who got off to the better start. Reaching 45-1 before M. Pennington (12) departed.

When A. Pennington (7) departed it began a famous Pencarrow batting collapse as we went from 62-2 to 87-6 with only J. Carter (49) providing a dent in the Buckland figures as he fell agonisingly short of a half century.

L. Cole’s (11) and A. MacPhee (9*) hit a late flurry of runs to get the third batting point reaching 124 all out.

Pencarrow gave it their all in the second innings with wickets for Jago (2-22) Boyling (1-26) and Carter (1-24) taking it to the 30th over before the winnings runs were hit.

Pencarrow 124ao (5) lost to Buckland 125-4 (20) by 6 wickets
