A really good Friday training in the school followed by an early Saturday hack led by Holly around her recently extended hacking route. Loved it and it’s so nice to do something different with Seran. She can be quite speedy on the bridges for Holly and Emma when hacking but on the lead rope, Seran was much more laidback choosing to go steady and look after me ❤️.

We had an amazing weekend at the Summer Para National Championships at Hartpury Equine International Events where we competed in a winter qualifier and the Gold Semi Final.

Holly’s changed a few things regarding Seran training and warming her up at competitions and it’s all working really well resulting in a happier Seran 😊.

Saturday, Holly did the early arena walk showing Seran there’s nothing to look at/worry about or eat 🤞.

Winter qualifier, we warmed up well and managed to carry it through into the test. Bar loss of attention in the halts which were expensive, we came away pleased with 67+%. We just needed to have a little more activity in our walk. Seran’s 15 yo and shouldn’t need to be nosey in the halt but it’s just part of her nature 👀. A 5s halt facing the seating was just too much for her to stay focused on me 🤦‍♀️.

Holly took Seran home and did a quick turn around before heading back to Hartpury. In the meantime, Mum and I caught up with our mentor Mari Durward-Akhurst Para Dressage Rider, Chloe, Pam and pup Maya while supporting fellow para riders doing their tests. Thankyou so much for surprising us, it was lovely to see you 🤗.

After a debrief with Holly on route home we knew what we needed to do for Sunday. Seran usually has less energy the second day so I knew I needed to encourage a little more activity. All was going steady, soft and supple until the double marked 5s halt. Giraffe moment which although square and on ‘x’ was very naughty and not needed even if there were distractions on the bank. I definitely used a few words I shouldn’t have used 😬. I am allowed to talk as one of my compensation aids. Seran got the message and our scores improved for the last 3 movements across all 3 judges with the increased activity.

Presentations were moved earlier so we went to get food and have a lovely chat with Mari in the cafe 🍽️🍦while Seran munched on hay in the lorry. Mari and Athene are inspiring and it was amazing seeing how Dan and Mari have progressed as a partnership.

We came 4th in the semi final 🎉. I’m super proud of Seran and the way we worked together. Thankyou loads to Holly for coaching, transporting, grooming and problem solving how to get the best from both Seran and I ❤️. You put in so much to our partnership on a daily basis.

Thankyou to Emma for lending us your lorry, to Sally for running the yard, Tim and Rosie for covering the yard in Holly’s absence. To everyone who supports us and works behind the scenes you’re all awesome, Thankyou all 🌟.

In April and May we competed at Hartpury in order to qualify for the gold semi-final at Hartpury in August and yesterday we received the email confirming our qualification 😊.

We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of our team. Thankyou to everyone of you 🤗.

Thankyou so much to Griggs Equestrian for always being there for us and for the NAF GastriAid, Ben from Omega Equine for a yearly big tub of Bostwellia and SPILLERS (Leah Spillers) for perform and restore mash. All of these are gifted to us and we are extremely grateful to you all ❤️.

Last weekend we ventured up to Sophie Wells for para academy. Super pleased we made it having only ridden together a hand full of times since the October weekend. Special thanks to Erme Valley Riding For The Disabled Ltd, Peggy for keeping me going inbetween my injuries on mechanical Jack and Bobby 🤗 and Holly for hacks on Ruin ❤️, alongside the gym 💪. We had a brilliant time on camp, learnt lots from all our sessions and enjoyed spending time with our para friends and their teams. We’ve got lots of hardwork ahead but we’re up for the challenge.

Thankyou Tasha Pearce, Sophie Wells OBE Dressage and everyone involved in running a great camp. 🌟

Thankyou Holly for all your hardwork, Emma for lending us your lorry, Sally for keeping the yard going, Frankie for helping Sally so Holly could be with us and Mum for helping to make this possible. 🌟🤗🌟🤗🌟

🚨 HUGE NEWS! 🚨

✨ We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled has been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service – the highest honour a UK voluntary group can receive, equivalent to an MBE. ✨

We are especially proud to share that only 231 groups across the entire UK have received this prestigious award this year, and Erme Valley RDA is one of them. This places us among a select group of outstanding organisations whose work has made a truly exceptional impact on their communities.

This recognition marks the culmination of a year-long process, and we could not be prouder that our work has truly been recognised at this national level.

Peggy receiving her MBE in 2011 was a tremendous honour, but she has always hoped that the group itself would one day be acknowledged for its impact, dedication, and service to our community. Today, that dream has come true.

The nomination process began last December, with heartfelt citations kindly provided by Linda Leach, Joy Watts, and Deborah Burrell .We are deeply grateful to Charlotte Walliker, who nominated us and undertook the huge task of compiling extensive paperwork, figures and supporting evidence.

Over the following months, our application progressed to the Devon County officials, who visited the group on 17th February 2025. We were honoured to welcome Robin Barlow DL and Lady Sarah Lopes, who spent the entire day interviewing participants, volunteers, directors and members of our community. Their visit concluded with an in-depth discussion with our Treasurer Sue Johns and with Peggy.
From there, the nomination went to London for final consideration.

To receive this award is an immense honour and represents the pinnacle of recognition for a voluntary group like ours. It celebrates not only what we do, but the heart, dedication and spirit of every single person who has been part of our journey.

A huge thank you goes out to all our volunteers, riders, families, supporters and friends. Erme Valley RDA simply would not be what it is without you.

We would also like to give special recognition to those whose experience, professionalism and long-standing service have built the strong foundation we stand on today:
Joy Watts, Reverend Jane Lankester, Sue Johns, and Mary Mac.
Because of you, this charity has been able to grow, flourish and continue changing lives.

Today, we celebrate all of Erme Valley Riding for the Disabled.
This award belongs to every one of you. 💜🐴

WE DID IT! 🎉🎉🎉

We’ve had a brilliant first British Dressage Para Academy camp (Friday - Sunday) at Sophie Wells OBE Dressage yard with fellow riders and all our support teams. Thankyou Tasha Pearce and Sophie for all your hardwork ensuring the weekend ran smoothly 🌟. The facilities were excellent. The catering was first class and very yummy 😋.

We started Friday with a general catch-up with para friends old and new with their support teams over a meal and collected our folders. Saturday and Sunday were quite full on with Alice Elliott test riding and constructive feedback with video which was so useful, 2x Sophie lessons working on our feedback. We had informative lectures on profiling, planning and goal setting sessions with Emily Hedger, Physio with Cara McKinnon and interesting talks by Ruth Wyatt Saddlery, Claire Akers Dengie Nutritionist and Jules Wheatley FEI Steward. It was great to meet all of you and I collected notes and information which will help with our progression towards our goals.

A massive Thankyou to Holly for training Seran and me, looking after her 24/7, transporting her, mounting/dismouning, warming both of us up, and coming to lectures. Without you attending para academy would not be possible 🌟. Thankyou to mum for all that you’ve done too ❤️. Thankyou Sally and Frankie from looking after the yard and Emma a huge Thankyou for letting us use your lorry 🌟.

Extremely grateful to everyone behind the scenes who helps to keep both Seran and I going 🤗.

Competition numbers pouch all finished and I mended one of Seran’s stable rugs. Hopefully it’ll last a while longer now 🤞.

Pam and Harry popped in to see us with their new puppy Monty ❤️. Was great to see them. Pam introduced me to sewing about 2 years ago and lent me my first machine. Thankyou Pam.

Thankyou to Chris at Exeter Sewing Machine Company for all the help with matching me with the right machine for me and maintaining it.
