Still trying to keep up with what Manx athletes are up to, and here's another amazing statistic! https://www.facebook.com/share/1DYkbrqgtS/
England squad is 80 per cent Manx!
There is some wonderful news for four of the Isle of Man’s leading race walkers, with England naming a five-strong squad for the World Athletics Race Walk Challenge in Madrid on 31 May — and four of those selected are Manx.
Erika Lockley (still competing under her maiden name Kelly in international events), Tim Perry, Honey-Mae Davies and Holly Salter have all been invited to represent England in the Spanish capital next month. The senior races are over a distance of 10 kilometres, the junior races are 5km.
Erika is a highly experienced international athlete who has been competing in events such as this for several years, but for the three younger walkers it will be their first experience of such a prestigious event. It really is a wonderful opportunity for them.
The fifth member of the squad is Cameron Corbishley (number 49 on the poster below), who has represented Great Britain in major championships. He is a familiar name to Manx race walkers having competed on the Island several times in recent years.
These are exciting times for local race walking with several other very promising youngsters coming through the ranks, and to have opportunities such as this available to them in the future can only inspire them further. Congratulations and best luck to Erika, Tim, Honey-Mae and Holly!
