Recently a founder said that they felt they were too 'zealous' when their business began (what an amazing word!)

They had concluded that they needed to tone it down, they were too keen, too passionate about their business mission.

Does this resonate with you?

Truly, I REALLY hope not.

How on earth can you be TOO passionate about changing the world with your slice of talent and greatness??

Why the **** should you tone yourself down because 99% of people out there have no fire?! ❤️‍🔥

We are drowning in mediocrity right now. Most of the population haven't found their purpose and the internet is full of bland, generic content blasted out on AI and not even read through properly.

So if you feel 'zealous', have passion and a nagging feeling your business was meant to change the world, even a teeny tiny bit, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't EVER dim that light!

We need you!

You just need to get your message out in a way that people understand.

Simple as that.

We are in week 3 of GCSE exams.

There was a 'fool proof' plan that I would drop Emily off, and then work in the (rather lovely) St Mary's Inn nearby, while she toiled and sweated - then we would head merrily off home. (Em only attends for the actual exam itself).

Naively, I was actually quite looking forward to exam season and making this pub my new part time office...

But no. St Mary's Inn is closed. Inconveniently.

And Emily doesn't always take 2 hours to finish her exam. Inconveniently.

After 2 weeks of trying to work in the car, I broke today and decided to take the dog for a walk in the area instead.

But where to go? Was there even anywhere to go??

Lo and behold, on the approach I spot not one, but two dog bins. A sure sign of a great dog walk (and it was!)

How had I not noticed them before?

Often the things you need are in plain sight - and don't pop up until you realise you need them.

There is a term for this, the reticular activating system - our brains filter out 99% of what's going on around us (more if you're my teenage kids 🙄), UNTIL we have a problem we need to solve.

Then, like a laser, we notice everything that relates to our situation.

When it comes to our businesses, our job is make sure we are visible for that 1% moment, when someone realises they have a need - and to clearly signpost that we have a solution (maybe not with a dog bin, but you get what I'm saying).

So its:

👀 being permanently and consistently on the fringes of your potential client's vision, and

👀 having a clear marker that you could potentially solve their problem.

Be like the dog poo bins - there and unmistakeably visible when someone needs you! 😁

Yesterday's workshop did not go quite as expected...

Yes, it was super warm temperature-wise. 🫠

But what I wasn't prepared for was how incredibly warm it was personality-wise.

10 of the loveliest business founders all in one room.

The enterprises were diverse, there was little common ground in terms of what they offered.

BUT - the support, the vulnerability and the real sense of community was tangible.

There was laughter, tears and friends were (hopefully!) made for life.

I vividly remember the day I launched my first full time business. I could NOT WAIT to get started...

Excited. Liberated. Full of possibility.

I looked like this… 🥳

🤣

I also vividly remember six months later:

Anxious. Bewildered. Overwhelmed. Inner critic playing on a loop.
I looked more like this… 😶‍🌫️

🤣

It was rough.

But I couldn't give up. I had taken redundancy when my kids were 3 years old and 3 months old respectively - I couldn't face dropping the two of them off at nursery and hitting the 9-5 (or, more accurately, 8-7).

So I locked in. I figured it out and that first full time business boomed.

The secret?

✨Figuring out what you need to tell people so that they understand (and like!) your offer.

✨Figuring out where you need to be so people can see what you offer.

✨Showing people how you are different and why they can trust you.

After that, it all came together - and the rest was easy.

Business doesn't have to be hard.

What's hard sometimes is remembering to see your business through your client's eyes and telling them why you are the obvious choice.

What makes YOU the obvious choice? 👀

1 week to go and only 2 spaces left…👀🤩

There's more to this than meets the eye... 👀

Katy’s Corner in Cramlington was created in memory of a young woman named Katy, who passed away from cancer.

Her family wanted to honour her by creating something that reflected who she was - warm, community‑minded, and passionate about helping people.

So instead of a plaque or bench, they created a legacy.

A space for connection, support, and community impact.

You can feel the intention in the room. It’s calm. It’s welcoming. It’s full of heart.

A place where people can come together, be themselves and feel at home as part of a community.

It’s hosted by Kirbys Solicitors and Legacare, who were closely connected to Katy and wanted to create something positive and lasting in her name.

That’s why (in return for a charitable donation) the space is offered for things like:

✨small business workshops

✨community events

✨networking

✨wellbeing sessions

✨local support groups

It’s not just a room. It’s a story created to host and hear more stories far into the future.

That’s also why it's the perfect venue for the workshop with Purdie and I on 1st June.

Not many seats left btw - if you like the idea of an event that's comfortable & casual but might just also change the way you feel about your business, hit me up!

If there's one thing I love, a lot, it's businesses who are looking to bring people together.

Especially in real life (or IRL as my kids like to call it).

The tech is taking over the world, but we still need, and have, each other - if we can stay comfortable with being around other, Actual, Humans!

So, show up to one (or more) of these events, have a chat, buy a couple of bits, or just soak up the experience of being out at an event, in the world.

It could be fun! ✨

Right we have a mad idea…..

We have a great few events coming up with our Blyth marketplace and Darkside events in the next few weeks..

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have 1000 followers by then….😱
